I just picked up this cabin on the Oosterdam for a December 2008 MR cruise. Got it for the same price as a VA category. Has anyone stayed in it and can tell me what it is like?

Thanks

Brewster

Good for you! You have a winner. We were in SZ6117 on the O a couple of years ago. Both balcony and room have extra space. Enjoy!

I am trying to attach our pictures of the cabin. Hope it works!

It looks great! Will the cabin be the same on the Noordam?

The cabin WAS great! The balcony had a small table and two dining chairs plus two comfortable arm chairs with ottomans. No loungers. Without actually measuring the angled balconies and the rectangular balconies and doing a math computation, I can't tell you exactly how much larger the balcony on the angle is. It may be a little larger, but not much. It's wider overall but not as deep on the angle. The advantage is the view! You can look back toward the wake plus there is a full view to the port side of the ship.

When you stand at the railing you are within conversation range of the neighboring balconies on your deck and the next deck down. If that's a problem just stay back from the railing and you'll have privacy.

To see more on the cabin, do a search on this board for SZ6117. There are more pictures of the cabin, including a picture taken from shore that shows the balcony. The balcony is outlined and you can compare the width visually with the neighboring balconies.

It's easy to tell where the extra real estate is inside the cabin: a triangle of space next to the balcony door that's maybe 20-30 square feet. As you can see from the pictures I posted we put our arm chairs there to enjoy the view and the sunshine.

We book 6117 whenever available, although we've never been able to use it. It has considerable extra room in the corner by the veranda door, and on the angled part of the veranda you can see forward along the length of the ship for a better view entering or leaving a port.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like we made a good choice based on all the feedback and pictures posted. This is the first time we will have been in a balcony cabin so it is going to be pretty exciting. :)

LOL!! :D Candy has it right. The balcony view is forward--not aft!! (View of wake was another ship.) :o

Uh-oh... be careful! Once you sail in a balcony cabin, it's really tough to go back to an OV!
