I will be in my first semester of my MBA program when we set sail, and I don't want to get too far behind in my studies, so I intend to take my laptop along for the cruise.

Is there a charge for wireless internet access on Maasdam? If so, how much? Anything special I need to do to get access?

Thanks! ;)

Cost is -
$3.95 to sign up
$0.75/minute or
$55 for 100 minutes plus 10 bonus on the first day
$100 for 250 minutes plus 20 bonus on the first day

You will need a relatively current laptop or a plug in wireless card (standard 802.11). When you first connect through your browser you will get to a signup page. It will tell you your login name and password (generally your booking number.) Sign up for your package and go for it. Make sure you log off each time (either by their pop up window or by going to 1.1.1.1) or you will continue to be charged. Many staterooms will have access, but generally all public areas have good access.

And, in addition to what rich said, it will be slowww. If it's important, buy lots of minutes.

Besides it being sloooooooow -- there will be times when you can even get on the internet -- everything depends on the satelite signal.

There were several times -- even a couple of days at a time when I couldn't even get online.

I know this might be a bit cumbersome for someone trying to keep up on homework, but...

We find an Internet Cafe at the dock near the ship. There is always one close by (presumably for a ship's crew).

It seems that we always have some time at the end of our "excursion" and using that time at the dock near the ship works well. Easy to get to the ship by "all aboard" time.

Best part is that the price runs around $4-7 for AN HOUR and it is always high speed internet. Compare that to the ship's prices quotes in the earlier thread. ;)

It may be possible to find free public access hotspots in some ports. I can't remember for sure, but I think it was St Thomas that I was able to pick up a usable signal from my verandah.
