I have read that Total Wine packages up your purchase nicely. We will pre-order and have it delivered to our hotel. Do you then unpack/repack everything into a suitcase or roll-on? Or do you leave it packed up and check it at the pier and have it delivered to your room? Please tell me the best way to transport our wine from the pier to our room. Any advice is appreciated!

We have brought a case of wine onboard several times. We go to the store, buy the wine and put it in a carboard wine box (the free ones). We put a luggage tag on it, drop it at the pier along with our bags, tip the porter well, and it appears in the cabin 5 hours later. Have never had a broken bottle or any problem.

Wow! Glad that has worked for you but it sounds awfully risky to me. Kinda like putting boxes of liquor outside your cabin for pickup along with luggage on the final night. I've heard horror stories about doing that.

I have a separate suitcase in which I place my bottles of wine, etc., and wrap it carefully with bubble wrap, towels, or other soft material. Never had a leak yet.

We have done the same, even in Barcellona on the Windsurf. We will be on the Oosterdam on the 18th of this month for a 7 days Mexican Riviera Cruise and we purchased wine packing boxes from a wine store, Bev. and More and leave them with the porters at the pier. But do remember these boxes can be treated pretty roughly before they reach your cabin. Hope this helps.

We carried ours on by hand. We brought on a case (12 bottles) and used the fabric 6-pack wine carrier bags that we got at the store. We tend to get onboard a little bit later, so our cabin is usually ready, so we can just drop them right off. I think they might get a little heavy dragging them around the ship if you get on early.

We bubble wrapped our wine (four bottles) for our Pacific Coast cruise from Vancouver to San Diego. They were split between our two suitcases and checked as usual. No issues with Canadian customs or the cruise line. Unfortunately, they only lasted two days :(

Funny how that works, pop the cork on the bottle and the wine just seems to disappear like magic.

Gary, we do exactly what you do and have never had a problem. We also ask at the cashier checkout for a magic marker so in addition to taping on the luggage tag we write in large print our cabin number on all sides of the box.

We also inform our cabin steward exactly the number of bags we have checked and a case of wine with our cabin number on it. Letting the cabin steward know that you have wine in addition to your regular bags is a good heads up for him to be on the lookout for your wine.

Good luck & enjoy.

When you pick up your wine from Total Wine, it will be packed in regular The wine is just sitting in the little compartments...they aren't actually wrapped or anything really secure.

We purchased (at Walmart) a collapsible hand truck. It was very lightweight and fit right into our suitcase. After we picked up the wine, we simply strapped it onto the hand truck and rolled it onboard with us. I would never trust that the wine would make it to our cabin without breaking. Have you seen how they throw some of the luggage around?

I just bought the hand truck you are talking about. WOW... it is really really nice. I would not have expected it to be from Wal-Mart and all. Very heavy duty. It should hold my wine just right:) And even comes with a bungee cord.

Thanks....I just ordered this on-line at your suggestion! Will it fit easily in our luggage when we fly to FFL?

No matter, my DH can use it to move stuff. He carried a 26" Sony (flat screen TV...not the new type/the "old!") from our house to our car to transport over here to the island last week! Could have used this!

It will easily fit into your luggage. We put ours in our luggage when we fly. Although it's lightweight, it's very strong. We put 3 cases of wine on it and strapped it on with the bungee cord that comes with it.
