View Full Version : Just booked my first HAL cruise..

I'm not going for a year - Oct. 05, 09 - but I'm excited anyway. I booked an SS cabin category on the Oosterdam for the Mediteranean Romance cruise. My last cruise was RCCL in 2006 and after that I decided that RCCL isn't as good as it used to be, so I decided to try Holland America this time.

Welcome to the Holland America forum. We've sailed the Oosterdam, and she's a fine ship. You'll enjoy the SS category cabin. Quite roomy.

Congratulations! I'll be on Oosterdam for the first time in Dec. 2008. In 2007 DH and I were on Zuiderdam which is the same class of ship. We loved it. Enjoy your year of excitement as you look forward to you cruise.

Thanks for the well wishes.

I've been looking at the deckplan where my cabin is and now I'm wondering if I should pick a different cabin number? It's all public areas and my cabin is 8050. I want to be on the port side and I didn't really want to change category, but all of these SS cabins are on the same deck. Also I read that some balconies are too windy to use.

Has anyone been in an SS cabin before? And if so, do you have pictures?

PS - what is open seating? Is that like NCL's Freestyle? Is it a good thing?

Congratulations on booking HAL. It's had to wait, but nice to have something to look forward to.:D We are back for more HAL next summer after we enjoyed our last time so much.

There is a sticky thread at the top all about the as you wish / open seating. We prefer traditional in general, but some people like as you wish dining a lot. That's one of the great things about HAL is being able to choose.:)

You made a great choice. Osterdam is a good ship. you
will love a SS suite.
