Anyone ever get a haircut at the ship's salon? I'm thinking they may be European and well trained in current styles, but it's kind of a scary thought to have someone new. I'm sure it's pretty pricey.....

I have never used the hair salon onboard but on a recent cruise I kept running into the same woman whether it be coming out of a show, dinner, or the elevators. I admired her hair and finally told her that I loved her hairstyle. She was 40ish and thanked me for the compliment. As the week progressed I was looking in the photo gallery and there was her picture. What I learned at that moment was that she had her hair cut and styled onboard. With results like that I say go for it!!!

A cut and style costs @$15 more on board than here, where I pay $35. Have used the salon on every one of our cruises, and have been quite pleased with the results. If I were in need of a trim, I wouldn't hesitate, but get a trial styling from the hairdresser first. That will tell you if you two are on the same page.

I've had my best haircut onboard a ship, as did my Mom. Also, my DH and my brother have had haircuts onboard, and they were fantastic. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

I too have had some great cuts, while onboard. I have also had highlighting done with marvelous results.

I'm hopeless with hair - I always get mine styled for formal nights onboard. Never had them cut it though.

My wife did - had it cut pretty short by a girl from Romania - She liked the result and I did also;) I'll see if I can dig out a pic and scan it

If you would feel comfortable going into a reputable hair salon at home and have your hair cut by someone whose work you had not seen before, than go for it. (As my mother always said, it will grow back). If not, get it cut before you leave home by someone you trust.

I did it once out of necessity because I ran out of time preparing for the cruise - WOW, cut and highlights, best I ever had.

Now, I plan on it early in every cruise - last time was the sail away night, worked out well. I have never been disapointed.

As the OP said, they are trained in Europe and up on the latest trends.

Far safer there than with someone who graduated from Bobbi's Beauti Skool in SmallTownNowhere, USA and hasn't changed her technique in 20 years.

It's only hair. It will grow back.

My sister in law and her friend had their hair cut on the Noordam and both hair cuts were AWESOME! If I didn't love my hairdresser, I'd go for it.

Grote kaas - That haircut must be some time ago. I mean, the childbride now has long hair AND you have to scan it? good grief!

Pretty impressive with the "Grote kaas", kleine kaas!;)

It was definitely pre-digital camera, hence the scanning part

I'm surprised so many had positive replies........will go for it on board! And you're right, it's only hair and will grow back!

Thanks for the input.

I had my best haircut ever on board, too. Maasdam in 2006, the stylist was an Aussie. It was so good, in fact, that I'm still kicking myself for not getting my hair cut on board when we were on the Eurodam in August.
