We were booked to be on this cruise, but 3 days prior to sailing I had a heart attack with resultent by pass surgery.Glad it did not happen on board! Anyhow, our friends who were going with us did make it. They have given us thier report. Violent pitching with resultant broken windows, glasswear slideing tables chairs and even people . It seems that during the pitching sludge from the fuel tanks became suspended with the fuel and plugged up the filters. when this happens the engines will shut down. For the time it took to correct this situation the ship was dead in the water. Much interior damage reported. All were offered half of the cruise cost refunded if they agreed not to hold HAL responsible . All in all, quite a trip. Kinda sorry I missed it!

Nice of HAL to offer 1/2 off. I think they should have skipped the part about not holding them responsible because 'shXX happens'. Now the sue crazy people will be using it as ammunition. It's about time people realize that there is no such thing as a perfect world, no god did not promise us one. Happy Sailing!

My mother (RIP) was a great fan of the old Rotterdam. She always said she wanted to die on it. Missed it by three weeks, but she was holding the tix for that next cruise (had just returned from her TA with her travel docs) and had just booked her following. I'm sure she would be saying, "Well, if this is it, better here than in a nursing home. And, darn it all, I should have had that second dessert."

Interesting post on Cruise Addicts Board from a passenger from the Rotterdam. Does anyone know who the Cruise Director was on the Rotterdam? Was it Susan Wood?

Yes, Susan Wood was the cruise director for that cruise.

Does anyone know how long Susan will be on Rotterdam? We are sailing in midDecember. We met her on Celebrity Galaxy, and really enjoyed getting to know her.

Susan left the Rotterdam in New York and is now on the Amsterdam. The new CD is Peter Daems, last on the Noordam.
