My wife and I are going to try the Z next spring. We really enjoy the mini-suites on the Grand class ships from Princess. Should we book the SS stateroom? What would you suggest as an equal.
Many thanks.

I would suggest you try to book a S suite if budget allows. The room is larger and the amenities are greater. The SS allows you more space but that is it. In the S you will have access to the Neptune Lounge, priority embarkation, priority tender tickets and free laundry. These are a few of the amenities that we really enjoyed. The price of the S, at times, is very little more than the SS. If ever you wanted to try a true suite on Holland, this is the time to do it. Prices are very competitive with other cruise lines in their suite category. You will enjoy the ship. A friendly crew that tries very hard to make your cruise special. Don't forget to try the specialty restaurant. Definitely worth the extra $$. Enjoy!

Definitely try a "S" if your budget can afford it.
Also you can go to the Pinnacle Grill (alternative restaurant) on the first night for $10 (half price) per person by calling ship services in advance and making a reservation.

The SS is equivalent to the S class minisuite. The SS, however, is larger and a better layout. The bath is excellent with a dual sink. I posted some SS cabin photos at:
http://www.cruise-addicts.com/picturepost/indexalpha.php
They're listed as "Zuiderdam B2B sep 2003". If you're not familiar with the web page just click on "select a gallery", and scroll to title. But be sure to first click on the "List Galleries Alphabetically" on the lower left of the page.

Where did you get the idea that an SS (at ~398 sq feet) was larger than an S (at ~516 sq feet)?

Kind of a snotty comment. Having a bad day?
Read my lips, I said S class minisuite, not S category.

I don't think so. But the OP, as best I can tell, had never been on a HAL ship before, Statendam class or any other. Since some had posted about the difference between an S and an SS category, I did want to be sure the OP wasn't confused. You wouldn't want that, would you?

Unless there are more than two of you and you have to have the special room that goes with a S suite, I wouldn't pay the extra for an "S" over an "SS". The SS is a perfect room and bathroom for two people. The veranda is huge. So I would save your money and go with a "SS" and then maybe get upgraded to an "S"!!!
