We were on the ship last month. The ship, the service, and most food was great. Opportunities for improvement would include the wine list (and prices!), and the Pinnacle Grill.

What was wrong with the Pinnacle Grill. I am sailing on the Oosterdam on 11/1 and was considering going there.
What was your experience?

The service was excellent, the meat inedible. I did have a very nice New York steak in the main dining room however. Other people rave about PG, but equating it to Ruth's Chris or Morton's is a bit of a stretch in my view.

not my experience on the "O" at the Pinnacle Grill. Food was exceptional (we eat out often and travel a good bit and enjoy top restaurants by Zagat ratings, and by comparison, it's very tasteful and dependable). When did you cruise on the Osterdam that you had a bad experience?
In fact, we're on the Westerdam in January, and have booked two nights in the Pinnacle Grill and are considering booking more! The Pinnacle Grill has it's own kitchen, separate from all other food preparations. Perhaps you just had an unusual experience?

Perhaps we did. But it is not the first time to have such an experience in PG we have found. I am really glad that many find it to their liking. We have found the specialty restaurants on Crystal and Silversea to be consistently excellent.

I will reply quickly as I am running out of minutes.
We are currently on the Oosterdam and will disembark tomorrow morning in San Diego. In addition to my husband and myself, we also were cruising with such notables as LaffNVegas and WanderingWinos....and many other names you will recongnize from these boards.
Will post a review when we get back, but since most of us ate in the Pinnacle at least 2 times this week - I don't think there are any problems there.
Also, the ship is a beautiful as ever and the service continues to be fantastic!!

We sailed the "O" last month. It was in fine shape. We ate in the PG and it was delicious. My husband got a Porterhouse steak that was enormous! It was definately not only edible, but delicious. We eat prime steaks from Jenson's or Bristol Farms or eat out at Ruths Chris or LGs from time to time. I think the steaks were similar. We had a little problem with one of the servers being a jacka$$ to one of the other servers, which I found unprofessional. One server made a slight error in how he delivered the butter...we did not even care, nor would be have particularly noticed, but the other server stood and laughed and laughed and called a great deal of attention to the error which seemed to embarrass the server who made the error. I found the laughing servor to be a pompous A$$.
Back on point....the "O" was great. We had a verandah room and a wonderful time. Please have breakfast in your room....it is so nice to awaken to the fresh coffee and rolls.

We board Oosterdam in about three hours. I always do an extensive review and photos of our cruises. You can see the depths I tend to go on our website at http://web.mac.com/jimbellomo/Travel/Travels-with-Jim-and-Kathleen.html
I should have it all online as well as a full review on Cruise Critic no later than November 5 or 6.
Time to pack (staying in San Diego at the Ramada Gaslamp--rooms clean but small with really old elevators), get breakfast and head to the ship.

IMO the Pinnacle Grill is worth it. I have been on the Oosterdam twice and both times we ate in the grill. It was worth it and I think now it is less than what we paid ($30 per person dinner)
