I'm such a planner and I've already planned as much as a possibly can and still have 24 days to go til our October 30th cruise on the Maasdam. It can't get here soon enough.

Question is, I know there are 3 formal nights, 2 informal and 5 casual, but does anyone know the order that these are in? I figure I can at least plan out what I will be wearing each specific day (Yes, I'm a fanatic...I make my husband crazy!).

Generally speaking, the formal nights will be on "at sea" days. If there are days you leave a port early (before 5, for example) they are good candidates for informal. First night & last night will definitely be casual. Otherwise, there's no real hard and fast rules.....

Jan, I don't know the answer but just to let you know I totally relate. I like to know ahead of time exactly which night is Formal, Informal, and Casual. I also plan what I am going to wear for each specific day. So you really are not a fanatic. What is usually a rule of thumb is the very first night is casual and the very last night is casual. Usually the second night is the first Formal night but I have seen some say it was the third night. Your last Formal will probably be the next to the last night but that is not definite either. The middle days all depends on ports. Hope some one can give you the exacts so you can plan.

I am a planner too, not only a list but a day-by-day list. Here is my guess based on your itinerary:
Day 0 Norfolk Casual
Day 1 At Sea Formal
Day 2 HMC 11a-6p Casual
Day 3 At Sea Formal
Day 4 St Thomas 10a-8p Informal
Day 5 St Johns 8a-11p Casual
Day 6 St Maarten 7a-7p Casual
Day 7 San Juan 7a-1p Informal
Day 8 At Sea Formal
Day 9 At Sea Casual
Day 10 Norfolk 8a No Dinner :(

Just a guess but what Dave said is correct so I know day 0 and day 9 and 10 are correct. The rest, a guess.

Jan,

Don't worry about it. We're on the same cruise and I'm driving my wife nuts also. The order of formal, informal, casual in Gliles post looks like it could be correct to me. I'd say he definitely nailed the formal nights, and the first night and last night casuals. Can't be sure about the four ports, but I'd say there's a good chance they're correct also.

BTW, where in VA Beach do you live? DW and I live in Great Bridge. Straight shot up 464 to downtown Norfolk. We used to live in Salem Lakes and before that DW lived in Windsor Woods.

JAN..You are not alone..I list & number all my outfits incl. shoes & Jewelry… Believe Gillis has the list pretty well figured out..Maybe the way I do my list will help in your planning.. ..

I make up a list (a seven-10 day cruise fits on one page, Need 2 pages for longer cruises just to list the outfits)

First list all the days, & stops with a blank line next to it ie:

Day 0-Jun 1-Leave FTL_____(C1 *)
Day 1-Jun 2-Half MC______(C-2 *)
Day 2-Jun 3-At Sea______ (F-1 *)
& continue listing all the dates & stops. (In 2 columns)

*The line is left blank & the number of the outfit is inserted each night On Board for the next day..
Then List & Number all my outfits under each category as follows:

FORMAL (4)

F1) Long Blk skirt__Gold top__ Blck heels__ Gold Jewelry__
F2) Long blk dress__ Lace Jacket__Blck heels__ Pearl Jewel__
Etc.

INFORMAL (4)

IN-1) Long Blck Dress__Red/Blck/Gold Jacket__Blck leather heels__Gold Jewel___
IN-2) Blck Skirt__Silver Sweater set___Blck sandals___Silver Jewel__
Etc.

CASUAL (6)

C1) Blck Slks__Beige Lace top__Blck Sandals___Gold/Blck Jewel__
C2) Blck Skirt__Polkadot top__Blck sandals__Pearl Jewel__
C3) Red Flowerd Dress__Red Sandals__Gold/Ruby Jewel__
Etc. & continue on numbering & listing all outfits..As we pack & list what suitcase they are in, we check each item off..Of course need another page for all daytime wear/underware, meds, shoes/ purses Misc,etc..Also list my DH’s Clothes separate page..His are easy! Tux, Suit, Blazer, Shirts etc, for long cruises..Suit & Blazer for short ones..

This list goes with us. Each night I fill in the blank for the next night so I know which outfit to put aside & press..This list also helps if our bags are lost..

Sorry this is so long, but thought this method might help you..I'm also getting antsy when my planning is done so far in advance..You wouldn’t believe how many times the list is revised.. And of course I always take too much & drive my DH crazy..He'll wait until the night before to decide..

My lists are almost ready for our Nov. 09 depart. & “Westerdam” 17 day Trans-Atlantic cruise...Now all we have to do is pack..Good Luck & Happy Cruising..Betty.

For our up-coming 21 day cruise, I e-mailed ship services and got the dress code for each evening. I did this the first part of September - well in advance of the cruise as it takes them a few days to answer e-mails.

Good idea KK. Just sent off an e-mail to HAL requesting the info. I'll post here when I receive a reply.:)
