We're going to be on Oosterdam during Thanksgiving. Does anyone know if HAL celebrates with any kind of special Turkey meal? Just curious

Lynzchat: Yes, they do! Turkey with all the trimmings! We have done 3 Thanksgiving cruises on HAL and it is absolutely the best way to spend Thanksgiving, IMHO! No fuss, no muss!

I was on the Rotterdam on Thanksgiving Day last year and as I recall the Rotterdam had the Turkey "with all the trimmings" as one of the meal options.

Same as others.....We spent Thanksgiving on the Statendam to Hawaii in Nov 2000. Among other things, they had a full turkey dinner, which was so, so. We are going again Oct. 2005 on the Celebrity Infinity.

Yes, turkey and dressing and pumpkin pie.

And they had a future husband at the table for me, too. :)

Are you going to leave us in suspense?

HAL would seem to be aware of Canadian and American Thanksgiving - we've been on board and turkey, etc. has been on the menu on both occasions.

What a surprise! I thought I had worn everyone on this board out by my constant swooning over having met Bruce on the Ryndam over Thanksgiving of 2002. We shared the same dinner table for a week and pal'd around a bit. No shipboard romance for me!

However, by New Year's Eve, we were engaged. By the end of July 2003, I had moved him from San Diego to Tucson and we were married. December 2003, we had our honeymoon cruise on the Statendam. We just got back Tuesday from our anniversary celebration cruise on the Prinsendam. The blow-by-blow of the meeting and romance has been reported more than a few times on various threads of this board (some of which went into oblivion when the new boards were installed).

Bruce is a dreamboat, but somehow I never associate him with turkey. ;)

I had never heard the story either, how sweet. Were you both cruising solo or with family or what? Details, I need more details! Congratulations in finding your life-mate, yet another good reason to cruise.

We were both cruising solo. I had picked Thanksgiving week because it seemed to me to perhaps attract eligible single men who had no place to go for Thanksgiving. When I got aboard, there were lots of families and lots of men! Turned out that all but a few of the guys were on a group cruise -- with the Washington D.C. Gay Men's Chorus.

Bruce went to see the maitre d' immediately upon boarding. Slipping the man a $50 bill, he asked to be seated with single women. Pocketing the money, the maitre d' did absolutely nothing, but said "You're taken care of." Mystified, Bruce went to dinner and found himself seated with a family, a couple of newlyweds, and another single man (the Australian Consul General to the U.S., a fascinating man). Bruce was rather steamed until I arrived, late. I had been seated by mistake at the wrong table and the steward came back and made me move.

Sounds just like "An Affair to Remember," no?

LOL, yes...what a story and what luck for both of you. Thanks for sharing, that story is wonderful. I moved my husband to be with me too but we didn't meet on a cruise ship so it would be "off-topic" here.

That is such a romantic story! I have not seen the story before. I can't wait to see what kind of romance fills our ship!

Thanks Cactuslady. Best story I've seen in a long time. Why not send the story to HAL. They might want to include it in a brochure.

By tradition I go to my Sister's for Thanksgiving. Last year I had Thanksgiving on the Rotterdam. My sister was not a happy camper that I was at sea on that day. Docked in Ft. Lauderdale the day after Thanksgiving.

Bets: really great to see you back on CC! My recent emails to you and Ron have been kicked back, so I have written down your new email address, as Virginia and I are up in Reno visiting with 8-month old grandson and our oldest son for his birthday today---our daughter-in-law is out of town or else we would be visiting her, too!

Until we can get together with you all, I have posted a few of our SA/Antarctic photos at http://www.buffnbou.funtigo.com

Keeping with the theme of this thread, we were going to spend Thanksgiving on the Statendam this year but cancelled it - I'll fill you in by email - so we will be landlubbers this Thanksgiving! How about you and Ron? Any cruises planned?

My email address is: buffnbou@cox.net
