I am trying to pack as light as I possibly can, so I plan on taking advantage of the free laundry/dry cleaning. what I want to know is when I send my laundry in, when can I expect it back? If it leaves my room before 9 am can I wear it the following day or will it take 2 days? around what time would it be back? trying to figure out more or less what I am wearing each day. thanks

ok so if it goes out on Tuesday I won't be able to wear it during the day until Thursday. HMMM now I have some thinking to do. And I guess that means Friday would be the last day to send it out if I leave on Sunday. DO they do rush jobs? Say, I spilt red wine on my DH's Tux on friday:eek: could I send it out on Saturday AM to get back by Saturday PM??:o Or is the stain going to set in until I get home on Sunday?

If it goes out Tuesday before lunch, it comes back Wednesday afternoon!
They also offer a express service: You have to have it out before 9am and you get it back the same afternoon, but it is 50% more charge per item!

How do you get the "free" laundry? Is that only if you book a suite?

How do you get the "free" laundry? Is that only if you book a suite? I believe so. but not all suites, like the sy sz and such don't get it. just the ph/sa/sb/sc ...

Having sailed on the Westerdam -- laundry service was not the best.

Out by 9 AM -- usually not back until the next evening -- around 8 PM.

There is no charge for PS, SA, SB and SC suite guests -- no matter if you ask for Express Service.

On the forms that we were given -- that wasn't any place to mark "Express Service"

On both of our cruises -- you had to request either through your concierge or cabin steward for a laundry bag. It was NOT in the closet -- like we have gotten accostumed to on other ships. Which makes the turn around time even longer.

We always get ours turned around in 24 hrs or less, most of the time less. We are nice to our cabin steward......

On the Satendam ours came back the next day but on the Eurodam it took two days and they lost something every time but the found everything but one shirt.
Good luck

Which makes the turn around time even longer.I check to see if there's a laundry bag as soon as I board and if one or two aren't there, I ask the steward for a couple of bags and forms. That way, I don't have to ask if I want to send stuff out to the laundry. It just takes a minute to look and saves a lot of stress.

On the forms that we were given -- that wasn't any place to mark "Express Service" I guess I will write it in but I only plan on using it if it is an emergency. :o

I will keep that in mind. thanks. on all my other cruises, whenever I left a note for the steward to do something or get me something I always left a couple of dollars with it.

On a recent sailing on the Westerdam, we asked our cabin steward what was most convenient for him. At his suggestion, we left a bag when we went to dinner most evenings and he returned the laundry by 5- 6pm the following evening.

That was for the free suite service.

I cruised once when the drying cleaning was "out of commission" for the entire 10 days. A friend that I cruised with experienced this on 2 different cruises. Chances are slim this will happen but it is always a possibility. ;)

Our experience is that the speed of laundry service is directly related to what you would think the demand would be on the itinerary that you are sailing.

We find that the greatest laundry demand occurs on longer voyages and those far from "home" ports. On our recent Noordam transatlantic the shipboard laundry service was overwhelmed for several days on end, and laundry frequently took longer than the next-day ideal that HAL represents. But that makes sense with most passengers having packed for 14++ days away from home, as well as slightly cooler overall temperatures, and a slightly "dressier" crowd.

On a 7-10 day warm weather itinerary, I would think that the demands on shipboard laundry would be considerably less.

Seeing as this perk was paid for in the price of your room, did they compensate you at all for this? This would mess up my plans as I plan to pack less and have things laundered and reused. I plan to use same tops and bottoms but mixing and matching to make a new look. having the dry cleaning "out of commission" would mean I have to wear dirty smelly clothes:eek: ewww

If you are planning to use the laundry, I suggest you build your wardrobe around sturdy khaki or light-colored pants without lycra so they can withstand frequent washing and drying. I based mine on black and found they quickly looked washed out even when I asked for cold water washing. Some of the items with stretch were never the same after going through the dryer.

NO COMPENSATION on my cruise.

My friend who had it happen twice told me that on one cruise they allowed ONE outfit to be cleaned when they stopped in Puerto Rica. They sent it ashore. She had her husband's tux cleaned since something got spilled on it during a formal night.

She was with me on the other cruise that provided nothing.

Like I said chances are slim that this would happen, but be able to work around it. :)
