Anyone know a good hotel in Venice?

Hi All

We just booked 10 day Venice to Venice on the Rotterdam in May. We're looking for a nice hotel in Venice as we're probably going to go a few days early. This will be or first cruise on HAL. We booked a cat B verandah. Any info anyone could share would be appreciated. Thanks...Lee

Check tripadvisor.com for reviews of hotels in Venice. We booked the Locanda Orseolo near San Marco Square. It is rated No. 1 on tripadvisor. The hotel only has 15 rooms and a superior room is E240 per night. The hotel responds immediately when you make a request.

We loved the Londra Palace Hotel which is right near St. Mark's Square.

My wife and I stayed at the "Principe" on the Grand Canal. Typical of most European hotels, the rooms are small by American standards, but elegantly furnished. It also has a small terrace (just off the restaurant) with a beautiful view of the Grand Canal where a romantic glass of wine or two can be shared. We highly recommend it and would stay there again in a NEw York minute.

We spent 3 nights at the Hotel Antiche Figure which is not near St Marks, but it is directly across from the St Lucia train station and piazza le roma (car park bus drop off) and there is a bridge crossing the grand canal right next to it and the vaporetto drop off is also directly across the grand canal. Making this a very convenient hotel. It is recently renovated and is relatively unknown therefore fairly reasonably priced. It is a solid 4star hotel, and the desk service speaks good English and can be very helpful. You can upgrade to a suite generally for about $25 more at check in with a wonderful balcony overlooking the Grand Canal. All in all an excellent hotel. We booked for a little less than $200 usd per night. We enjoyed walking all over the islands and we could easily walk to St Marks in less than an hour, but if you did that you would miss all of the neat shops and bars located all over the islands. The vaporettos are cheap and easy to navigate around the islands and even to the outer lagoon islands like Murano and Burano or Lido. You can buy a multi-day pass for 21 euros for 3 days with unlimited use per person. Then getting to St Marks or anywhere else close to the grand canal is a snap, plus it is very beautiful looking at the buildings beside the Canal. St Marks is a beautiful spot, but other less famous spots in Venice are just as nice and you won't get nailed with the prices that occur at St Marks. We had 2 Bombay Saphire Gin and tonics and 2 champagne cocktails and a small bowl of potatoe chips for 60 euros sitting at St Marks listening to the bands, fyi. We had a meal for 4 of great taste and quality several spots with the house wine for less.

The Plazzo Bembo is a tiny hotel (only 6 rooms) on the top floor of an ancient plazzo. It's located on the Grand Canal near the Rialto Bridge. Beautiful interiors and amenities. Location fabulous--small canal and pedestrian walk directly to St Mark's . Many shops, restaurants, open markets and public transportation nearby. Breakfast included. Small, helpful staff. Security entry.
