I asked you all about two weeks ago about how to pursue a fare reduction on a previously booked cruise. We are booked on the Jan. 29th Ryndam cruise through the Panama Canal. In the current Mariner magazine, this same cruise was advertised as having a new lower fare. Well, I called my TA who checked the promos and called HAL and was told there was no reduction on our booking (verandah B). I called HAL and was told the same thing. I asked my TA to pursue it further since it was a published reduction and final payment is due a month away.
Tah DAh....my wonderful TA called yesterday to tell me that our fare for two was reduced $947!!!!! Wow! I still can't believe it!! Thanks for your responses to my previous post. Otherwise, I don't think I would have had the gumption or the knowledge to even question a cruise price once booked.
YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!!!

Congratulations Betty, you know the old saying "if at first you don't succeed,
try and try again". This certainly seems to be true in the travel world. The extra dollars go a long way towards your NEXT cruise, enjoy your voyage.

You know, it's sad that HAL doesn't do this automatically for their Mariners instead of us having to fight for it. It would be a nice thank-you for our business. How hard could it be?

Anytime we have seen reductions in our cruises, even after fianl payment, our TA gets hold of a supervisor at HAL and we get the lower rates - has to be at least 10% reduction.

Frankly- this fare could easily be gotten by just canceling and rebooking??? Anything outside of final payment is easy to get the adjustment. it's after that most are out of luck. :(

We, too, have been lucky to take advantage of the "10% reduction after final payment". Last year on Maasdam and just this week on Zuiderdam (cruise is 6 weeks away). This is one policy that I really appreciate about HAL.:)

Glad you kept onto them about the price reduction. We kept tabs on our upcoming Zaandam cruise in a few weeks for over a year and before we made our final payment we called and got almost $1200 off our final price. Got a real nice price on a cat s. It pays to keep trying and make people do their job. They knew we could cancel and come out ahead at a lower price and so they kept us booked with the price reduction.

I don't think cancelling and rebooking would have been a good idea in this case. All the verandah suites have been booked and we had selected the location we wanted. It would have been a case of "shooting myself in the foot" (which I certainly am inclined to do!). Anyway, thanks for the kind responses.

I guess that could make you a little nervous, but the TA can cancel and then immediately re-book. In fact, that probably is what your TA threatened to do to get HAL to reduce it.
