Westerdam SS suite question??

Can someone tell me if the SS suites on the Westerdam have flat screen TVs. I read that they have DVD players. Do these suites qualify for the free DVD check out??

When we had a SS Suite on the Westerdam a few years ago.
We had to pay for the DVDS. and the TV was not a flat screen.
it might be now after the drydock!

That's a bummer that you have to pay for DVDs. I guess I will bring a few for sea days. I would think all suites would get the free DVD benefit.

I can't seem to find any pictures of the suites after the drydock/refit??

SS cabins are NOT suites - that's why there's no free dvd. It's confusing when HAL uses the term "superior verandah suite" or whatever they call it, because they're not considered suites and do not get the suite benefits. You'd need to book SC/SB/SA to be in a suite.

The layout is similar between the SS/SY/SZ and SB/SC/SA....the full suites are wider and have a little more in them.

Just a word of warning - SS cabins are under the Lido pool. As a result, you'll hear deck chairs being dragged around each morning....early morning. Some people aren't bothered, but others get very bothered by it. That's the reason I went with SY and not SS. They're identical cabins, but I'm between 2 decks of cabins instead of under a noisy area.

The SY category suites do have flat screen tv's and we never thought about dvd's because the first run movies are so good.

Note ... the TV was a big tube in 2005. I don't know if they've swapped them out now. They may have. But ... in the following picture you CAN see the DVD player on the shelf under it.

I love the SS category cabin. It has a very nice size -- hence the "suite" name -- but it doesn't have any of the amenities that the Deluxe Suites have but which I don't use and really don't use. I've only had one once, and I'm looking forward to having another one aboard the Noordam in January. I usually get just an inside cabin, but sometimes its nice to have a lot of space and a verandah too. :D
