Just check it everyday on the HAL website. If by chance you do not get an assignment by the day of departure, the baggage handler's at the port will have it when you get there. One time, my TA called me the morning of and told me. Good luck and happy sailing!:p

We are booked on the Westerdam sailing on December 14th and received our cabin assignment today. We were given a VA category rather than the VE guarantee we originally booked.

I leave in the morning driving to Ft. Lauderdale for a Dec. 6h cruise on Statendam. Booked inside guarantee and still don't have cabin number. Called Holland and they said that was a good thing. They said they would give me a cabin number once I get on ship. I really hope I get an upgrade.

Car loaded and ready to go.:)

We sail on 12/9 and got ours last week (nearly 2 weeks out). However one or our roll call members is still waiting on her SZ Guar, as well as another roll call member, who has a V? Guar. Good Luck!

We're sailing on 12/7 and got our assignment 11/25, or 12 days out. We paid for a VH and we're sailing in a VA on the Navigation deck!!!!!!!! Better yet, we got a good bargain on the VH because we didn't book until 10 days after the final payment date! :D:D

mfs763,
We are also on the December 14th Westerdam sailing, we have a great group over on our rollcall, why don't you come and join us?

We got a great offer for a paid upgrade a couple of days ago and snapped it up - from a VE guarantee to an SS suite for only $149 pp. A couple of others on our rollcall upgraded from their VA's to SS's also. Maybe you got one of their VA's!!:D It's gonna be a fun cruise.

We just got our cabin assignments today for the Oosterdam, Dec.13 and were upgraded from a VE to a VB. The adult kids were upgraded from NN to a K right across the hall from us. So we're all happy campers - oops, happy sailors.

We got an assignment yesterday (12/3) for our 12/13 on the Oosterdam. Boooked an SY GUAR and received an SY which is fine. But then these things sometimes change so we are still visualizing eating breakfast in the Pinnacle. ;)

Susan,

We have listed on the roll call site and are really looking forward to this cruise. My TA tried to get a paid upgrade for us but was told that it was random luck who received offers. Would have liked a great upgrade to a SS but am happy for what we received. See you on the 14th.

Roy,
So glad you are on the roll call, I must have missed your posts when I was out of town, or else forgot about them in this old brain of mine!:p Maybe you will get a free upgrade to a suite - that would be so awesome. There is no rhyme or reason to who gets upgrade offers I guess; it does seem that the longer you have to wait for your cabin assignment the more likely it is that you will get a really good upgrade. My fingers are crossed for you. I'm looking forward to meeting you on the ship.

Well, I guess I have to confess, I may have stretched the truth a little. I didn't want to leave the impression that I am obsesive/compulsive. I have been known to check more often than once a day! It's almost 5 PM west coast time. Time to go check...

We sail on the 29th and just got our assignment. VF to VA. This does put us right under the Sea View Pool so hopefully we won't hear too much noise of deck chairs being dragged about. Although I have ear plugs, so I figure all in all I've come out pretty well. Do they ever downgrade you after upgrading you? I think I am going to be uneasy until I actually have my room key.

What is the difference in a VF and a VA? Size of cabin or is it just location?

jtl513

What is the difference in a VF and a VA? Size of cabin or is it just location?Location and size of verandah. The verandahs for VA cabins on the sides (not stern) are 6 ft deep, while the deck 5 VF verandahs are 4.5 ft deep, and those for the VFs on deck 4 are 7.5 ft deep. The downside of the deck 4 VFs is that they have the steel-wall railings instead of plexiglas, and your view is blocked when seated.

Can you tell me what the VB cabins/balconies are like?

Thanks for any/all info.

Upgrade Fairy for President!!!!
All of our requests were answered and then some. We started with a VF guarantee (two cabins). Were awarded VC cabins next to each other. We were offered a very small upsell to SZ guarantees. Took the gamble. Well, we sail next week and we are going in style!!!! We got a corner aft SB and an angular mid aft location SB. We asked to be on separate sides of the ship so we could always catch a view and we got it. They came through for us and we couldn't be more thrilled. Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just back from Westerdam. Booked a VF guarantee - got assigned a VB. Thought that was great. When we got to the ship found out we'd been upgraded again to a suite!! Very nice and what a surprise. Now, I've got to figure out how to get that again on our next HAL cruise. Thanks HAL

Crossing fingers toes and eyes for this to happen for me this weekend! A girl can dream, can't she? As of right now we booked the lowest Obstructed view and paid for a small balcony upgrade to a VA (cabin 8030) so if they move me-that is A okay.
