I requested early because I didn't know what everyone in our party would want and figured it would be easier to change to late. Well at the time, I didn't know early could be 5:45pm. If that is what we end up with, how hard do you think it would be to change to later? There are 5 of us. Right now Yahoo says only the late (830) seating is available, that would be better than 5:45 I think.

Gretchen, who is Yahoo? Did you try calling Ship's Services to ask about changing to the "late early" seating? I'm puzzled that you TA didn't tell you that you had 4 choices.
Confused again, I can't figure out what Yahoo has to do with it.

I always manage to confuse you Heather!
Yahoo.com is a search engine but they also have a very intuitive cruise booking engine...and hotel, car, airline, etc. I can search for a cruise on there and it will show which cabins are still available, dining times, etc.
I didn't call yet because I don't even know what dining time we have, I requested early and my TA didn't tell me because I didn't ask, I requested early and that is what she put in. I work in "the industry" and have been on many cruises so I am sure she doesn't feel a need to tell me things that I should already know! It doesn't really matter that much but I am thinking that I would prefer later than 545, if that in fact is what we have but I also have to check with DH, DS and DS's P (dear Husband, dear sister and dear sister's partner) no need to check with DD since she will just go with the flow.
My question was what thoughts are about changing from early to late vs late to early. I always thought that early fills up first which is why I booked that since I didn't know what to request at the time. With the other DD, we did late and by the time we got done with dinner, it was too late for her to go to the dance club as they kicked anyone under 18 out at 10am (she was 17 and 50 weeks) but this DD is already 18 so that isn't an issue so I don't know what I was thinking when I booked except that I thought early was more popular.

For a while, many people wanted to dine late and 8 & 8:30 were wait-listed. On some ships - depending upon the itineray - early - 5:45 & 6:15 are wait-listed.
On the Vista class ships - which is attracting the younger people - the later dining times are filling up quickly - the younger generation stays up late - according to HAL.

When we booked our Dec. 22 Holiday Cruise last July the only dining times left were 5:45 or 8:30. My TA (who was talking to HAL on the phone) said they told her if I "wait-listed" the 6:15 then I would have to give up my 5:45. We didn't want either of the later times, so settled for 5:45. I figure my chances are slim to none that I'll be able to change my 5:45 to 6:15. But I'll try anyway once on board. What do you "experienced" cruisers think the chances are. I am assuming this cruise will be pretty full.
