Great deal and more coming down the pike. :DDon't be too happy about that.
Remember the old adage ... you get what you pay for. If cruise lines have to keep slashing prices just to put warm bodies on the ships, then it stands to reason that other things are gonna need to be slashed too ... like service and amenities.
Regardless of what face the travel industry tries to put on, things are tough ... for all vacation providers. Tourism is way off ... even land-based vacation providers.
The Atlantis Resort is also having to slash prices on rooms in order to keep them full, as are many of the Vegas hotels. I heard there are great deals being offered by hotels in Hawaii too.
So, the cruise lines are getting hit hard in this economy too, so that's why all the good deals. But remember, those good deals are gonna come at a price ... and that price will be a diminished onboard experience. I can't see things going any other way.
Blue skies ...

Oh I agree, Rita, but it really doesn't matter to me. As long as I'm on a ship and have a cabin and have edible food, I don't really care. What else would diminish? Service isn't because we pay their wages from our tips. Food has already went down hill on all the lines.

Someone just posted on the USA Today site that they thought they had this booked and were then told they were "wait listed" for the rate.

I just emailed our TA:
"Hmmmm. I presume that the $649 price is for the 7 day trip. What are they offering on the 10 day trips Should we cancel & rebook? We are paying closer to $2,500 each."
I want to see the fine print.

A bargain is a bargain.
Many cruises are on sale while others are not. Enjoy the great deals that are out there!!!
The Mexican Riviera cruises have been this cheap for the lowest category in the least desirable week for the season for the last few years. The product has changed a little, but a missing a lobster tail with a massive price reduction is not about to stop avid cruisers from getting out there and having a great time.
Hopefully everyone gets a taste of the discounts, maybe even some new cruisers.

10 day cruises with more detailed visits on smaller ships attract a premium, particularly for those rooms with a balcony or higher...
Suites can cost over 5k for the 10 day cruise.
It is not "nuts" but personal choice that dictates prices...
