I was on the Oosterdam last month for a VERY short one night cruise. My favorite thing to do on a ship is swim. I was really looking forward to using one or both of the pools on the Oosterdam. But when I got on the ship I saw that they had jets that sprayed water in the air over the pool on both pools. I thought this was just something they did at first for show and they would turn them off after a bit. But they were on the whole cruise. Now I have no interest in swimming with water spraying on top of me the whole time. Many women like to take a swim and not get their hair totally wet and their makeup sprayed off. This would be something that would make me think twice about taking a longer cruise with them. Especially in a warm climate like the Caribbean or Mexico. Do they keep them on all the time? Is this the same on all HAL ships? I liked the food and service . The cabins etc.

No they do not spray water over the pool, in fact I have never seen it happen in 23 years of cruising with HAL.
From what you wrote, I gather you were on a one night special cruise for travel agents, guests, etc., and maybe they figured that no one would be swimming so just did it for show and to look nice.

I agree with Esme, I have never seen this either.

We have been on the Oosterdam and lots of other HAL ships and never heard of or seen anything like that.
Like the others, they figured that since it was a one night cruise, they put them on for show.
You didn't mention, but, if they had colored lights, then it would have been very nice to watch.

We were on for one night. But it was also the first day of a 22 day cruise for a lot of passengers on the ship. It was not for travel agents only. We are not travel agents. They are still on the ship as we speak! I am glad to hear that it is not a usual occcurance. Having cruised on most lines my favorite being Celebrity, I was very happy with my first HAL experience. :) We had a beautiful S suite. I thought it was nicer than the Sky Suite on the Millie or Infinity.
