Hi. Has anyone stayed in the VA/stern cabins? Was just wondering how they compare to port or starboard staterooms. Does anyone have any pictures?

We really enjoyed ours on the Eurodam. It was significantly deeper than the VAs on the sides. The verandah was a bit deeper, too. The thing I liked was that we could see both port and starboard from the same spot. This was really nice, especially when cruising through the Norwegian fjords.

Like a real dork, I failed to take pictures! However, revneal did shoot a couple. Click here (http://homepage.mac.com/revneal/eurodam2008/PhotoAlbum283.html) and you'll see them.

If you can snag one, go for it.

I was in a VA aft/stern on deck 5 on the Eurodam, and while the cabin felt a bit bigger than those on port or starboard on the other vistas, the veranda was much shorter than the one I had on the Noordam. I was very disappointed. I will try to find a picture.

Here's a picture. You can see out the door how close the railing of the veranda is to the cabin.

I did measure our verandah (deck 7) and it was one inch shy of eight feet deep.

Hi everyone. I was wondering if the VA stern/aft cabins have covered balconies. Is there a way I can find out which floors have covered balconies?

We were thinking about getting on of the VA cabins 8164-8188 or 8175-8179. They are under the sea view pool area. Does anyone know if there are noises associated with pool chairs, etc. being moved around?

Thank you so much,

Michelle

Here's a picture of the balcony in aft VA5192. The aft balconies are covered.

The VA cabins on Deck 8 are completely covered, while the verandas on the lower deck cabins have a small area that is uncovered. We also noticed that those cabins seemed to catch small bits of trash that blew from the Lido - we did not have this problem, and we were able to stand at the rail even during the rain...

Here's a picture of the aft/stern of the Eurodam - I hope it helps! We were in a SB on deck 7 and the deck was about 3/4 covered.

Try this thread the where I posted pictures from my stay in VA 4185. I couldn't have cared less that the balcony was smaller than some of the other still-un-retrofitted vista class ships; it was still bigger than on other cruise lines and offers the best view. More importantly, the rooms themselves are significantly larger (at least on certain decks, so you should call Ship Services at HAL to see which of the rooms has the largest size). Our cabin was noticeably bigger than my other family members' cabins on the port and starboard sides (about fifty-five square feet bigger on the inside alone). Don't let the "size" of the balcony change your mind. After all, the aft VAs and two aft VBs are fairly reasonably priced, are no more expensive then the same category cabins on the sides of the ship, and will not have smaller balconies than those categories.

Thank you for the helpful responses. We will probably book an aft/stern cabin for our next cruise on the Eurodam.

We were in 7132 in July 2008 (the 13 day sailing) out of Rotterdam. I took a look at the cabin you refer to in your email and it was great. I have booked the same aft cabin for our Canada/New England sailing in September 2009. I would love to have an "aft suite" as I had one on the Westerdam and it was nice. I always book the aft cabins now.

Deluxerider - It looks like DH and I will be close neighbors to you on that cruise. Have you joined our Roll Call yet? We're working on getting a group together for a Meet-and-Greet on the ship if you're interested.

No we haven't joined the Roll Call. I'll take a look at it and try to join. I'm new to this cruise critic thing but I've found there's a wealth of information!!
