Can anyone tell me if there is likely to be car rental shuttle buses at Port Everglades when disembarking, and which could we expect to see. We are hoping to book car rental for 4 days after our cruise, but would it just be easier to taxi to Fort Lauderdale Airport and pick up a shuttle from there.

I know that Avis has a shuttle to the port to bring passengers. You might give them a call to see what time the first shuttle comes. If you have reserved a car with them, they might come at a prearranged time to get you.
Or, you could take a taxi. It will cost less than $15.00 because the airport is very close to the seaport.

I was in Ft. Lauderdale 2 weeks ago and will be there again in 2 weeks, we rentered a SUV for $70.00 for 2 days at Alamo. They are based in Florida so you always get a good deal. T hey also have a shuttle. The "Snowman" has spoken!!

You will find most rental agencies represented. Their shuttles come by about every 15 to 20 minutes. We usually rent from Budget. They seem to have the best deals. Be sure to book via the Internet. Also, if you have a Costco membership, you can get substantial savings from Budget. Good luck.

While we were waiting for our ride, we counted shuttles for six different car rental companies at Port Everglades.

Since we are mentioning agencies, I got mine through Thrifty. They told me to call the 800 number (they said they will have direct phones at the port, but I will have my cell phone) when we are ready to leave the port and the shuttle will be there within 10-15 minutes, take us to FLL, and we can return the car before our 6pm flight. The charge for shuttle is $3.95 per rental on the confirmation fine print. I called the Thrifty 800 number after researching Travelocity and a couple other sites to get an idea of the prices and they gave me a better price. You may need a different type of car--a friend cruising in a couple weeks needed a van for their family luggage. I confirmed under $25 for a compact (4-door), which was less than an economy (2-door). Now we will not have worries about luggage and can see the area. The $3.95 is cheaper than the taxi with the same tip.:)

I got an Alamo Compact car for $15/day on Priceline. Alamo did not charge for the shuttle. Also, when renting with Priceline, you are prepaid and we got thru the line much more quickly than those with reserved cars. The down side id that you cannot cancel and get a refund with Priceline.

Hertz lets me have a car for the day for free. It's all part of the Hertz Platinum club experience (only $1000/yr membership fee!). I do pay $50 for the shuttle, but it's a Lincoln Town Car. And I always tip the guy who brings the car around so he'll remember me the next time.
