I booked a cruise last March with Cruise Value Center and after they shut down last month for a cruise next May, I was finally able to transfer my booking to a PCC with HAL yesterday. It looks like the original booking was cancelled because I now have a new booking number. I am about to purchase travel insurance through an online insurance company and would like to know if this is considered a new booking and if I will be covered for pre-existing conditions. My original deposit was tranferred and luckily I was able to keep the same cabin. The question is what date would I use for the deposit? My copy of the new confirmation says "deposit paid" but it doesn't give a date.

Thanks for any help.

Arlene

You might want to google the name of the travel insurance company, maybe along with the online agency name. It's probably the one I've just declined because I found lots of negative stuff associated with the insurance. It was "travel protection" not insurance. The owner seemed to have changed states several times as authorities went after him and people were arguing claims.
Can anyone recommend reputable travel insurance? Is recommending this allowed on the boards? If I'm going to purchase cancel for any reason, I need to do it in the next few days.
thanks

I believe you will need to use the date you actually paid the deposit. Even if the booking number changed, the date you paid the deposit did not. It would probably be best if you discussed this with the agent at the insurance company, as they would be the ones who could advise you best.

Be very careful to be truthful, because if you are not and file a claim, the ins. company can ask for documentation of everything, and you would not want to be involved in insurance fraud. I'm glad you were able to salvage your booking!

Thanks. I actually did call an agent and found out that there is insurance which would include pre-existing conditions as long as you purchase it no later than 24 hours after your final payment. It costs a few dollars more, but it is well worth it.

Arlene, try smartmouth as they had good rates. Did your booking number change? Whoever you use, I would call directly, explain the situation and make sure you use a company that will put something in writing that you are covered for pre-existing conditions. Both HTH and CSA Luxe can cover this at final payment but it must be the first and only booking. If the cruiseline received your original deposit you would need to use that date, but again I would go with HTH or CSA whichever will give give you something in writing that you are covered for pre-existing conditions. That is usually the reason they ask that question.
