last month we had a 7 day cruise around alaska, man that ship rocks!! :D
every aspect of the ship was exceptional. i have a disability which means that i require a wheelchair to be mobile. i thought i had ruined the cruise for good when my electric wheelchair broke down. but those guys on there.... the engineers, they fixed it good!!:) and in no time whatsoever. meaning my enjoyment of this cruise was not hindered. i was especially impressed with the food on there and the availability of it. room service was excellent!! the pinnacle was out of this world. my only complaint really was a one that could not be helped by the crew really though. the weather was poor as i cruised near the end of the alaska season and the winter was setting in!!

highseasailor, I totally agree the Oosterdam does ROCK!!!:D We went the begining of the Alaska cruise season. To date it is by far the best cruise/ship we have ever been on. I am so glad they treated you right and could fix your chair.I would say those engineers that fixed it deserve some cheers.

The O-Dam is a very cool ship. I did the Alaska trip on her back in july.

Glad to hear that you had a great cruise on the Oosterdam.

HAL crew always try their best to help passengers - including fixing electric wheel chairs.

Sorry, no disrespect to the original OP. In fact, I find the post quite refreshing. We don't normally get people posting titles of threads like "Oosterdam rocks". I always put a face to a person's post and for this one I keep picturing the turtle from Finding Nemo. :)

As we near on own cruise on the Oosterdam, it is so wonderful to read something positive for a change. I've been going lower and lower with concern from all I've been reading. Maybe I should just stop here!!! Thanks for posting!:D

WE sailed on the Oosterdam on her third sailing from FLL after coming across from her launch in Europe. She is a fine ship. We enjoyed that cruise very much and would sail on her again in a heartbeat. She should have a great season on the west coast this year.

Awww, Heather --

No reason for you to be down before a cruise - its time to get excited!

What to Pack? What to Wear? Where to Go?

Have you made those reservations for the Pinnacle yet? Be sure to bat those pretty eyes and ask nicely for extra chocolate truffles at the end of your dinner - they may send you "home" w/ several wrapped up in a foil pouch like they did for us!

I hope you love the "O" as much as I did...

Thanks for the post, I am getting so excited. 12 days and counting but it could be an old fishing boat for all I care right now, just need to get away from work.

I hope you love the "O" as much as I did...Oh, Brian, not "down" ... just "concerned". Now I'm reading about all the disappointment about the food on the Zuiderdam last week. Sometimes I think I was better off when I didn't read so much "opinion":) . I'm anxiously awaiting Sail's opinion about the food.

I am excited!!! I promise! Plenty of time to pack and start trying on clothes and stuff. We made the reservation at the Pinnacle for a sea day (Tuesday) and decided we'll go to Dutch Night after all. I can't wait to tackle the volcano cake and I'm amazed that you know my little tricks;) for "extras" without ever having met me. Our adorable waiter (I literally fell in love with him:) ) last year was constantly slipping me all sorts of little extra goodies.

Actually I love these last few weeks before a cruise ... relish the anticipation sometimes more than the actual event!!! Thanks for the uplift!

"Its 6 o'clock. Do you know where your bartender is?"

Brian, wasn't it you who met Ryan Magarian on your last cruise? And did he offer you "Hot Voodoo Love"?

<That's a new drink, folks - honest. Read the article I posted the link to in another thread!> :)

Yes, I did...
...and, I wish!

A group of us were carrying on at the bar in the Crow's Nest while in glacier bay one afternoon and drinking my "new" concoction: Hot Chocolate w/ a shot of Grand Marnier & whipped cream on top. We were trying to figure out what it was called, or what to name it when Ryan walked in and ordered a drink. I said "Hey" across the bar "What should we call this new drink?"

He replied, "How 'bout 'Hot Orange Love'?"
I said, "It's a date!"
:p

Big laughs all around the bar - He blushed and left...

I think I scared him off...

Maybe he's not originally from the west coast, then. Iowans blush easily, I'm told.

I don't know where he's from, actually, but I've known a number of Iowans - all of whom appear to blush easily. At least at first blush! THe longer they've been away from the corn fields, though, the less likely they are to be surprised by anything!

I still blush sometimes even though I have been away from those corn fields almost 27 years and I live in SIN CITY:eek:

thanks for the upbeat message! will be on the "O" Nov. 7. Looking forward to comparing her to the Zuiderdam (which we loved). And we were hesitant about sailing on the new Vista ships...but her size was managable...and frankly...the walking helped me keep from gaining any weight! Love the outside elevators!
