We are from Colorado... Arvada is west of the Denver metro area, close to the foothills. Generally, we get snow before Halloween, and as late as May or June. The beauty of Colorado (metro area) is that the snow does not stick around long - it snows and then the sun shines - we have more sunny days than Portland, Oregon or Seattle, Washington. :)
Right now, the leaves are turning a beautiful yellow, orange, amber... but it is still fairly warm.
What is going on in your neck of the woods?
Do you know other CC members in your area?

We're in the San Francisco Bay area - Sunnyvale, CA. It's almost to the rainy season here, but our days are still warm (75-85) and clear, after the morning "marine layer" burns off.
It's been 15 years since we lived anywhere that might reasonably expect snow (Richmond, VA) but I saw enough during my many years in Providence, RI, Pittsburgh, PA, Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC. We now prefer to visit the snow, in Alaska, during the summer.

Dave-
I grew up just south of Los Angeles... was just there last weekend for a wedding. I had forgotten how long it takes for the marine layer to burn off... very hazy, but almost everything in LA seems to be that way anymore.
We have the most crystal clear skies - while I loved visiting friends and family in California, I was happy to be home. :)
DS lives in Northern California - Shasta area, very beautiful. I had a very good friend who lived in Moraga, I used to visit every summer. Northern California is still one of my favorite places to go - I love the new airport (SFO) :)

We live in Orange County (DH and I) , Calif. Born and raised (me)! While we do not get snow we can travel 2 hours to the mountains which we do every year to ride inner tubes down the hills, weeeeeeeeeeeeeee . On the flip side we only live 12 minutes from the coast, and 1 hour 30 minutes from the desert. The only seasons we really get to experience are spring, summer and fall. Most of our winter lows are not below 43 degrees, a few times it go as low as 37 degrees, which was sooooo cold!
I guess dakrewser lives in the same state hehehe and justducky does.
This is a great thread, I hope we keep it going :)

I've lived in Chesapeake VA for the last 10 years. Chesapeake is located in the very southeast corner of the state. It's been cooling off here lately, getting down to the high 40s at night and about 70 during the day.
I spent a couple of years in southern California (Whittier and Anaheim) so I know how nice the weather can be there.
I also spent four years of college in upstate NY, outside of Albany and 10 years in Massachusetts, so I know what real winter is all about.
This area is very nice, although the summer's can be a bit brutal (it's a wet heat)!!!!!!

We live in Western PA. This past weekend the temperatures were in the 60's. Today it is foggy and cool. The leaves have started to turn beautiful shades of yellow and red and are beginning to fall.
There are a couple of other cc'ers who have posted from time to time on the HAL boards - superstein61, steelcity, and someone from Murrsyville. We don't know them personally. And I imagine that if I checked out the other boards closely there are a lot more cc'ers from this area.

Our area in southern Indiana has been in a drought for about two months. Yippee--it's raining this morning and is supposed to continue for another day! This county and surrounding counties in Illinois and Kentucky have been in a burn ban because of the extremely dry conditions. http://cdn.compuserve.com/g/i/icons/weather/15_grad.png
As far as any CCs in this area, none that we know of.

We hail from West Springfield, Massachusetts located in the western part of the state. About 1/2 hour from Hartford, CT. The temps have been dropping here. Today it will barely reach 60. The nights are in the 40's. The leaves are beginning to peak. It is really a beautiful sight.

I live in the California desert about 50 miles from Palm springs, (a little town called Joshua Tree) We are always hot!! we are still in the 90's here. I have to tell you when my son graduates high school in a couple years. I am selling and moving somewhere green. lol I need more seasons than always warm. and I am tired of cactus and snakes. I grew up in Orange county (buena park) but the freeways are too crazy to go back that way. Maybe Oregon.:) Christine

We've lived for the past 4 years here in West Palm Beach FL ... hot and humid in the summer and then 6 months of heavenly springlike weather with a few bites of a real fall feel.
The happiest day in my year is the one that came 4 days ago when I could open all my sliders and front door and feel the breeze through the house all day long. That's when I remember why we came here.
Originally from a quiet little New England town in the northeast corner of CT called Woodstock, I miss it terribly. I miss the light bright green hint of spring and the splendid reds and yellows of fall. I miss the first snow and I miss the last ;) .
But for now, we call this Paradise ... and I think we'll stay.

DH and I are also native Californians! I was born and raised in that beautiful fog layer in the SF Bay and relocated into the Sacramento area 20 years ago. He is a San Fernando transplant. We don't get snow here but if we want to experience it, it is just a ride up into the Sierras. Down here in the valley we have an 8 month growing season and very hot  conditions in the summer which is why we try to flee to a cooler locale aboard a ship!!!

We've had our bout with a dry season too Keith&Rita. Here in the Southwest Ohio region it's Indian Summer. The nights are cool and with the dry spell we are having has made the colors start to pop-out on the trees. I would say we are a couple weeks early on the fall foilage. I wish we would get rain. Send some our way. It's supposed to tonight & tomorrow (I pray as I'm having my yard over seeded today).

Here in Tucson we are just beginning the growing, golfing and resort season. It's cooled off quite a bit, which means we will only get into the high 80s or low 90s this week -- Brrrrrrrrr.
The town is coming alive after a long, dormant summer. All of a sudden there is a ton of things to do. The list will peak in February when we have the Rodeo (featuring the world's longest non-motorized parade) and the world's largest Gem Show. (If you want to beat the prices on board ship or in all those ports, THIS is the place to be because this is where the dealers come to get their stock.) This Sunday we'll be in Tombstone (home of the OK Corral, Wyatt Earp and Big Nose Kate) for Helldorado Days.
The sun is of course the dominant weather feature every single day (yes really, with very few exceptions), and the air has been clear and lovely lately. I have a gorgeous view of 2 craggy mountain ranges from my office window (there are 5 mountain ranges surrounding Tucson). Later on, I'll dip into our pool and spa to enjoy the view of the city lights. It's almost cool enough in the evening to start up the firepit on the patio. Wait a minute -- did we just go somewhere else to vacation? What were we thinking?

Arkansas here. About 50 miles W of Little Rock. We had a really mild summer and September was very dry but Thurs night and Friday we got 7" of rain and it drizzled all weekend. The temperatures today are in the 50's. We've been in the 70's until yesterday. We usually have beautiful fall colors(we're right at the foot of the Ozark mountains) but since it was so dry, the leaves just turned brown. We dont' get much snow, but I am afraid after the beautiful summer, we might have to pay for it. Three years ago on Christmas Day we got an ice storm that shut everything down.

Both my husband and I were born and raised within 200 miles of where we've lived for the past 27 years. We live in the frozen tundra :D called Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where we experience the best and worst of all four seasons. Unfortunately, one season seems to dominate the year - that being winter. Spring is wonderful, being able to see the new green buds on the barren trees, then summer rolls along with heat (usually 80 to 85 daily), and now we're in our autumn phase. We have had snow already - only a short burst about 2 weeks ago where it snowed for about 2 hours and melted a short while later. The last snow prior to that was at the end of May. The trees have nearly all shed their leaves, making our lawns a riot of colour, and we will likely spend the upcoming weekend putting our Christmas lights on the house and grounds before it gets too cold and makes the job a real chore.
Why do we continue to live here? Besides our careers and families being here, I guess it's because we can enjoy each of the 4 seasons and also we are content in knowing that we can escape our cold winters (-40 degrees is NOT uncommon) by simply booking a cruise. :)
We don't know of any other CC'ers in the area ... we're few and far between in the frozen tundra, I guess!
Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)

Oh for heaven's sake, be quiet. Ekerr clearly asked whether we had any other CC members in our area or whether we knew a lot of people who like to cruise. It's part of her post. So, yes, it has to do with cruising. And where we live has to do (sometimes) with why we like to cruise in particular areas.
Some of us forgot....like me So I'll fix that now! Yes, there a few CC members living around me but I haven't met them. And I don't have a ton of cruise addict friends which draws me to these boards.

I know of 2 other CC'ers in the area: Jim Hannah and DW and Laffnvegas, aka Lisa, and her DH. We've had one very enjoyable dinner get-together and hope to do more!
I probably don't need to describe Las Vegas, but temps are still in the 80s during the day and lows in the 60s at night. I wish it would cool off soon, however.
DW & I are transplants, like the majority of Las Vegans, and being retired military, we were in essence, professional gypsies for 24 years. We chose to retire here, primarily due to the climate and because we had a lot of USAF friends who retired here, as well. I only wish that Las Vegas was also a port city!!!!

We hail from the north shore of Boston - Beverly. Weather here has been terrific. Great fall weather..some days in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Today we had rain, but the sun is coming out now. Trees are still turning around here, but up north natures canvas is awash with beautiful golds, reds and browns, along with a background of spruce greens..simply an amazing site! Fall is our favorite season. We too love the first snow of the season..and then look forward to the last. I've lived in several states (CA, VT, NJ, OK, KN) and I have to say New England remains my favorite. Just love the 4 seasons, living by the Ocean, can be in beautiful mountains in less than 2 hours (I realize they are not the Rockies..but they are beautiful!) We love Boston and we can be in NYC or Monteral in about 4 hours by car...less if we fly. We can spend long weekends in all of the NE states..with less than a 2 hour drive--and they all offer something a little different! I have noticed there are other CC members who are from MA, and also the North Shore.

We live in the same city (San Francisco) but are worlds apart...
:(
I enjoy seeing the ships when they leave the port in the evenings from my office window, or if they are in drydock down off 3rd Street I can see them from my apartment.
Reminds me of the very first cruiseship I ever saw back in '89 - I was driving into the City (from Sacramento when I was stationed there in the USAF) and saw the sparkling-new Royal Viking Sun moored at Pier 35 on her first World Cruise. Drove closer to get a better look and saw stewards on the decks doing their cleaning while on the street, passengers were exiting taxi's w/ luggage and flowers. Decided right then and there that I had to cruise someday. Now that she's the Prinsendam, I hope to get the chance before too long...

The next few days are forecast for highs in 60's.

I see that Bill S has checked in already for us Vegas CCer's Yes, there are three regular HAL Boards Las Vegans but I think there might be a few others that are lurkers and new fold here on the board.
We are certainly not natives of Las Vegas but sometimes it feels like it. We moved to Vegas in March of 1978 from Cedar Rapids Iowa. I cannot imagine living any where else unless it was Kona Hawaii.:p The only downside is that it is not a port city like Bill S said. The good thing about Vegas is because it is a vacation destination we can easily fly to port cities so we can cruise. Plus we have so many wonderful brunches on Sunday that we feel like we are on a cruise every weekend:D
Bill S and Vegas Jim just let me know when you want to get together. We want to see all of Jim's pictures.

Looks like we now live just north of iluvcruzin (we're south of Dayton but north of Cincinnati). But we lived south of there and north of tealady in Richwood KY from 1994 - 2003. We're getting the rain here tonight too (though we saw plenty of it in New Orleans last weekend so are a bit tired of it!) However, we're originally from Los Angeles (talk about culture shock when we were transferred to KY). I'm from the "valley" and my husband grew up in Westwood but we spent the last 15 years there in Santa Clarita. Do miss the weather at times but probably wouldn't go back. Getting away from the weather here does make a winter Carribean cruise seem more special.

It is terrible how time has changed those areas, most of whittier is now taken over by gangs and Anaheim is being over run by Disneyland, and all that seems to be left are low income housing areas. Very sad cause I raised my daughters in Anaheim and loved it then! Tustin Ranch is the ritzy part of town :)

Bill, My cruise Yahoo Group had a Land Cruise to Vegas in August. A few of the group have moved there and thought it would be a good idea as a land cruise. Unfortunatly it coincided with my son's trip to orlando to start a Disney internship and I had to be there.
I live in NJ where the tree's are Turning. It will be cold soon. I have lived in Long Island but the best place I lived is when I was in college in Tennessee. My husband did try for a transfer last year to Memphis, and were told no decision would be made until late 2004.
There are cruise Critic members in my area , that I met on my last cruise.

We live in the suburbs east of San Diego where the weather is usually perfect, but we could use a bit of rain now and then.

Just thought I'd say Hello from Surrey, England. We are about 10 miles south from Londons city centre.
I'm never sure why HAL is not more popular in the UK.... We just LOVE it....

Hello all from Ottawa, Ontario Canada. For those who are not familiar with Canadian geography, we are about 2 hours west of Montreal, Quebec, about 4.5 hours east of Toronto, Ontario and approx. 4 hours north east of Syracuse, NY.

Hello right back and welcome!:)
Met a friendly British couple on Amsterdam - He was recently retired from Rolls Royce (the gas-turbine engine company, not the motorcars) Of course they live somewhere warmer now, like Arizona.
They were always on time for High Tea...

;) Hello Brian
Afternoon/High Tea - Lovely.... On the Westerdam last month, we were everso impressed with the quality & service in the Explorers Lounge, and of course the dining room on 'sea' days. The people from the Pinnacle Grill looked after us beautifully.
How is San Francisco? - we are looking forward to being there again in February. We are actually taking a Princess Cruise out of LA to Hawaii (5th March). It will be our first venture with Princess so I hope that we aren't disappointed after all the HAL cruises we have done. We would have taken a HAL ship if the dates had fitted but it is my 50th (shhh!!) birthday.
Cheerio for now.....

Hi, I live in Littleton, CO just south of you!!!! Looking at possible snowfall this evening:eek: . I personally have not been on a cruise, but my two sisters and I just purchased an Alaskan cruise for my parents as a 50th wedding anniversary gift. They will be on HAL's Oosterdam in August 2005. I have done a lot of research and found most of the answers to my questions on this message board....it's been great
