I thought this was of some interest. I just checked the website for Nativeway. We have reservations with them to swim with the Sting Rays for our cruise next March.

This is from their website.
Important Hurricane Notice...

Due to the damage caused by hurricane Ivan, cruise ships will not be visiting Grand Cayman for an indefinite period of time. We believe that ships will start visiting again during the end of October or beginning of November. As soon as the cruise ships resume service, Native Way will be ready and waiting for you!

For questions about tours, or to make a reservation, please call us at: (345) 946-8656. We will reimburse you for the call by deducting a total of $10 off the total tour cost for your family (or group). Or, you can e-mail us at: nativway@candw.ky Please note that due to a limited amount of internet access and electricity on the island now, it may take up to 3 days to get a response to your e-mail messages.

We sincerely thank you for your continued support.

I hope Native Way will be able to resume business soon, and all of the businesses on Cayman Island for that matter. We took the excursion with Native Way in May and found Sharon to be a well organized, thoroughly professional business woman. Because of tendering delays were arrived on the island later than expected. There were several other cruise ships in port as well. Native Way were not able to wait for us. Sharon drove us to Seven Mile beach for an hour, then returned for us and took us to a small boat she had arranged for us.There were only six of us ( 4 from the Zuiderdam, and two land vacationers) and two crew members. It could not have been better. We had a wonderful time, and were able to spend that extra time swimming at Seven Mile Beach.

I found it good that they felt they would be up and operating the end of October or first of November which means that must be when they expect cruise ships to start returning. The other good thing is that they must not of sustained any damage to their boats since they will be up an operating so soon. I thought all of this was really good news since it previously sounded like it could be the first of the year before cruise ships could return.

This is an email I received from Sharon at Nativeway on Oct 5...

Hi Alison,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. We still do not have power or land telephone lines. However, the island is rapidly on the mend.

Everyone at Native Way is in great health and spirits. Thanks so much for your thoughtful e-mail and your concern.

We look forward to seeing you on your next return to Grand Cayman!

Sadly, I think that whole island suffered greatly.

Funny, though shocking story ... I mailed some postcards from hell during my recent cruise on the Zuiderdam (8-28 to 9-11). I think we were actually on Grand Cayman about 9-8. Those postcards have just arrived here in the states. The one I sent my father came this morning (10-12). :(

Actually, I had wondered if mail stuck on the island before the storm had been destroyed and was not expecting any of the cards to make it to their intended destination. Guess better late than never, huh?

Blue skies ...
