:( Let's have a moment of silence in memory of the whale,
who added so much...
...displacement, to all our lives.

Actually it is kinda sad. My guess is he was a sick whale and that his sonar was no longer working.

It is very sad and I don't see that here is anything to laugh about. :(

Very sad. I still don't know why anyone would want to post pictures like this and call them cool. I find it disturbing to be honest with you.

I feel sorry for the whale, too. I'm taking the Sea of Cortes cruise in two weeks, just to see the magnificent creatures who live there.
I'm ashamed of anyone who would mock a dead whale........re-read your post.....it sounds like something some rich and thoughtless biddy like Leona Helmsley would say..............

I also think it is very sad. I see nothing cool or humorous about the pictures.

Oh my gosh people, get real, the person who took these pics did a cool job of it, I was not making light of a whale being killed and I was laughing at bepsf reply because if you knew him you would know he brings alot of fun and laughter to these boards. SO for the record, the pictures are cool, Not what happend! and it's not something you see everyday thank god! But it happened, I did not cause it and since I read about it in the papers, I appreciate the chance to see the pics this person took. Sorry I shared them and I'm sorry if these offened you, must be time for me to move on from this board. Have a great life and please continue to make all your fellow cc'ers feel special :)

Sorry, Ziggy, maybe you feel the pictures are cool, but I could have done without seeing something like that. Pictures like that don't need to be posted, I don't think anyways. I looked at one and moved on.

Ziggy - did you check the meaning of 'cool'?
It's quite tragic that a whale died in that manner. Like some others here I looked at one picture and moved on.

I agree this is something that does not happen often and for those that want to see the pictures I do not see a problem with that.
My objection is calling the pictures cool.
Ziggy, maybe your interpretation of the word "cool" is different than mine.
I think tragic is a better description of the pictures.

Folks, I'm just as much if not more at fault here for my comment - and I apologize if I seemed cold and heartless. :o When the incident first happened, I too was one of the folks to post and say how sad it was.
Although the incident was terribly sad, it seems that the photos themselves were interesting (for some of us) to look at, if for no other reason than seeing a whale - any whale, whether dead or alive - is such a rare and amazing thing.
When whales wash ashore and folks troop down to the beach en-masse to see the poor animal's carcass, do we denounce them? When we take our children/grandchildren/nieces/nephews to the natural history museum to look at the skeletons and other remains of animals, are we being somehow insensitive and macabre? When we go to Alaska to see the salmon spawn, then die and float downriver - are we disrespecting the animals when we say "Gosh, it really stinks here", or "Johnny, don't play with the dead fish"?
(And yes, a curious young boy from our cruise WAS poking around with the dead salmon on the beach - Go figure...)
...So why are we condemning Ziggy's post? If anything, flame me for being momentarily insensitive...
Of course Ziggy and I understand the feelings of those who do not appreciate seeing such things. Just as I cannot personally bear to watch graphic medical shows & I flip the channel, avert my eyes or go clean the kitchen - you have every right not to click the link to view these photos.
As far as the word 'cool' - some folks nowadays understand it to mean 'interesting', 'unusual' or 'unique', if not necessarily 'good'.
So yes Ziggy, the PICTURES of that poor whale were cool...

I agree. It's an interpretation thing. I thought "cool" was used in the text as "interesting".
Thanks for sharing the interesting pics Ziggy.

Ziggy, I also took the word "cool" as interesting. (Maybe it is a west coast thing on how we took this word) I looked at these early this morning at home and found the pictures also interesting although sad.

according to Webster's:
cool: 13.slang. great, fine, excellent (what I thought Ziggy implied.)
I more think it was:
cool: 10. aloof, dispassionate, unfeeling
How about tomAto, tomato, Let's call the whole thing off.

ps the Greepeace reference was sarcasm.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to view images of this most unusual incident.
I simply adore whales of any kind and, whilst sad, I found the pictures quite amazing.
The fact that such an event is so rare may indicate that the poor whale in question, was in fact ill.

Honestly I find it odd that a HEALTHY or ALIVE whale would not get out of the path of a ship... It was a very unfortunate sad event, but I'm not 100% sure that the whale was still alive... The pictures are "reality" and I found them very interesting to look at..
