Heather-

I was busy ordering last night too! I went to Nordstrom.com - I should have avoided it with a 10 foot pole! I got 4 new pairs of shoes, which I need like a hole in the head! Good thing I get home before DH, he doesn't object to my shopping, but he would comment on another few pairs of shoes...

I have my reply all ready, just in case: "I'm supposed to be packing light, so I thought I'd look for some "light weight" clothes and shoes..." ;)

tjcletsgo, I will look forward to hearing your review of the Ryndam as well as the Sea of Cortez. I think you will be the second week out after her Signature of Excellence upgrade. I think the first week out is October 23rd (someone correct me if I am wrong) The Ryndam will be the first to complete SOE.

I'm on the Summitdam November 5-15 southern Caribbean route.

In order to make it count, I made sure to list a '-dam' ship.

Heck, I don't even know if I count because I've not yet sailed on a HAL ship. Can I use family credits? ;)

Hi!
Richard and I and our friends, the Antles, are leaving on October 20 on a 10-day cruise to New England and Canada on the Rotterdam.
We spent 19 days on the Rotterdam doing a Baltic Cruise in 2000 and loved the ship!
Best regards,

Carol Ann Westbrook

P.S. We booked an obstructed view on the lower promenade deck ( which we love) and HAL, in its widsom has given us an upgrade from the HH on that deck to a EE on the Dolphin deck. We have been trying to get moved back. Guess we won't know until we get to New York.

We will be waving from the Oosterdam as she pulls away on October 24. We are celebrating our 10th anniverary and also my 40th. Or as I like to call it...my 30 + 10 birthday. Can't wait...the suitcases are opened and sitting on the bedroom floor 1/2 full. Can't wait to see our other cc cruisers on board.

hey Beth...so you're a midnight type person too! I was aiming for 5 more pounds but decided I couldn't afford to buy all new clothes again (I'm now between sizes)! Will get serious AFTER the cruise. Didn't gain an ounce on the last cruise so I anticipate the same for this one...just hoping to hold the line for now! Did go out yesterday and buy a new dress for dinner (hum...let me consult my wardrobe chart...looks like it will be Thursday night!)...just call me "dottie" when you see me in it!

On HAL, we've found those slots located by the doors and entry/exits to be the best for us...

My favorite - a nickel slot, "Jackpot Party" I have won hundreds on those machines!

Good Luck! :D

Welcome to the newcomers, glad you are posting on the boards! This is a great forum for all kinds of information.

Oh, I envy you! We only get 50 lbs per bag on British Air! DH is in a cast so I have to deal with most of the luggage - he can take one large bag with our carry on attched to the top... we are also doing a farewell cruise, farewell to the Noordam in the Med. We have a car meeting us at the airport in Rome, told them to expect luggage :D , then onto the port the following day by private car.

DH says three pairs of shoes too, but when I count - that is impossible for him. He needs 5... so he won't be able to complain when I bring all mine! :D

Thought Alitalia might limit our bags to 50 lbs, but called today & its 70..Thank Goodness Trying hard to cut down on this cruise...LOL

Thanks! Hope you guys have a great cruise too! Please make sure you post your experience... we are looking at another Med cruise, so any information we get is helpful. We took a Baltic a few years back and it was super.

We are also in Morocco on this trip.. did you plan an excursion? We booked the ancient City of Rabat tour - hopefully we'll enjoy it. It is so hard to decide what to do and this is one port I don't want to just wander around in...

AWK!!! I don't remember! Let's see: Which night is Dutch Night? (not so important anymore because we've decided to do the Pinnacle Tuesday no matter what and enjoy Dutch Night) ... How is the turquoise cabana and do they have the electric hooked up yet so people can use them? And I think there was something else but it escapes me! I do want a full report on the food because I've been begging Sail to report but so far she hasn't.

AHH, I found the list, it is on our roll call board. You said you wanted me to tell you EVERYTHING so that sums it up. I will take copious notes and report back as soon as I can when we return, I won't have much time before you leave.

I see you are on the 11/6 Volendam sailing with us. There is a group of 12 of us that will be getting together on Sunday 11/7 at 2 pm in the dolphin bar by the lido pool. Please feel free to join us. Given what I've learned of the others thus far we would all probably benefit form the stabilizing influence a man of the cloth might provide. Then again, away and on vacation you just might opt to be as wacky as the rest of us. Not that that would be a BAD thing. *L*

Our first time ever on HAL, leaving on the 27th on the Volendam. We have cruised numerous times with both Celebrity and Princess and once on the old Regency Cruise Lines.

Who can suggest where on the board I should look for more details on the ship itself and everything that we need to know about HAL?

Smooth sailing and great times to all!

tjcletsgo, I will look forward to hearing your review of the Ryndam as well as the Sea of Cortez. I think you will be the second week out after her Signature of Excellence upgrade. I think the first week out is October 23rd (someone correct me if I am wrong) The Ryndam will be the first to complete SOE.
Thanks,Laffnvegas,

Yeah, the first cruise out of dry dock is on Oct. 20th, a ten day Mexican Rivera/Sea of Cortes trip. Only one other couple will have slept on our mattress after the upgrades!!!!

I'm soooo looking forward to this cruise! I'm getting hooked on this forum.....it's like chocolate, ADDICTING!

Lisa, I think the Dutch dinner is Tuesday, when were dock in Loreto. This is based on what most people have relayed. We're going the Neptune Lounge as soon as we board to find out and make reservations for the Pinnacle that night. I also want to find out about the Sommelier's Dinner........I really hope we have one. We'll DEFINATELY want to sign up for it.

Lisa, can you tell me your experience with first night dinners on HAL?? Would we be smart to make a reservation for the Pinnacle for the first night also?

I will be on these boards the day I come back to let you know all about it.........anything specific you would like to know, please tell me and I'll fiind out for you!

Best place to start is with the CC member reviews (click here (http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/getreviews.cfm?action=ship&ShipID=127)) of the Volendam. There's also the recent "Live from the Volendam" thread (click here (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=86244&highlight=volendam)) that got a lot of traffic.

After that, start a new thread with any questions you might have and we'll all do our best to help! :)

Janie, I kinda figured Dutch night was going to be Tuesday or Wednesday. We also plan to go right to the Neptune Lounge to make reservations for that night. We always like the first night in the Main Dining Room, we like to get to know our tablemates as well as our Dining Room Steward. The meal that night is usually pretty good. In the past the first night we have had good shrimp cocktails or fresh Smoked Salmon with Asparagus. I can't remember the main dishs we have had but I remember them being fairly good. The big thing for my husband is that is the only night they serve for dessert the HAL Signature Chocolate Cake. I know that it is cheaper to go to the Pinnacle that night but we just prefer to go to the Main Dining Room then.

The Sommelier's Dinner does sound wonderful I am just not sure I could drink that much wine plus I tend to be allergic to red wines because of the high sulfur content. I usually stick to champagne or I can handle some white wines.

I am really looking forward to hearing how your cruise was when you return. I guess my only other question will be what night was the last formal night. I am guessing Thursday with first formal night being Sunday.

Have checked out the reviews already and been reading some of the "live" sections, just didn't want to ask the usual stupid ??. Check the HAL Roll Call Lists..On Page 3 there is a Roll call for the 10/27 Sailing of the Volendam..it was started by evgal & only 4 more posts..If you post on it you can bump it up to page one..

We were last on the Volendam in 2001..It was a 10 day FLL-Caracas..Had 3 formal, 3 Informal & the rest Casual nights.. Most people observed the dress code, but don't know if it has changed in the last 4 years..

Welcome to the boards & hope you have a wonderful cruise..

Wow! There are a lot of us traveling over the next few weeks. I've noticed a lot of folks are sailing late november and december too..looks like fall is a favorite time to sail!

We're counting down. Ordered things on line..but haven't taken out the suit cases yet. We are on our first 10 day and we hope we can manage to pack light..... we always seem to bring so much more than we need.. Figure if we take less it will also be less painful on that last day when we have to face reality and repack suit cases for the trip home...

Wishing everyone calm seas and sunny skies..and relaxing days!

I too have noticed the boards are quite as active as the usually are over the past couple of weeks...everyone must be busy planning their packing lists!

We are also on this cruise, I have been monitoring and posting on the roll call board and I was beginning to think that DH and I were really going to be spending some time ALONE! Actually we have spent enough time together over the last 7 weeks, he had knee replacement on Aug. 27 and we are absolutely ready for this cruise. We just booked last week as we weren't sure whether or not there would be a cruise this Fall until now. And YEA, we're sailing!

Please look up my post on the roll call board as I don't want to waste everyone's time here with all of those dumb question. We have sailed Celebrity and Princess many times but this is our first HAL, anything that anyone thinks that we need to know, please holler it out. One month from today!!! I'm starting to make little piles in the guest room of the "list". I have been "warned" that we will not take as many clothes this time. I wonder if that theory works?? There are some great ideas on the CC board of little things to remember to bring along.

Candy
October 26th, 2004, 07:15 PM
I put half back, then add some more last-minute things... we have the porters drag 'em around (that's what those extra singles are for.) Oh... take twice as much money, too.

He learned his lesson when I brought along two lady friends several cruises ago. He, being the perfect gentleman, became the overseer for all our things, watching over cab drivers, porters, etc. He has not forgotten. However, I do most of the (planning and) packing! I do like the $2 bill idea. I had family members that always took them to away football games and drew tiger paws on them before passing them around host city.
