Ziggy, there is no reason to leave the board for this. We have all felt like we were flamed at one time or another. I certainly hope you did not take my comment as flaming I just said it was also sad. Sometimes what we type and think does not come across as how it was intended. Best thing is just go on like nothing has happened. Please do not take it personally.

Okay, I haven't even read this thread yet because I'm so astounded. What happened? What did I miss? When did Ziggy ever offend anyone? I'm stupified.
Whatever it is, Ziggy, take a break if you like (if you remember I did that recently) and then come back.
You are one of the least problematical posters on here. I can't imagine what happened. Now I'll go back, read the thread, and see if I can figure this out.

Okay, being the instant researcher that I am I've discovered what happened. Ziggy, maybe your choice of words was not the best but just try to put it behind you and move on.
As to the actual link being posted, I personally did not wish to view it but that was left to me to decide. I cry when they kill an chipmunk in a movie, for heaven's sake ... that's how pathetic I am.
Having gotten to know Ziggy on these boards for quite some time, I know she is not in any way heartless and certainly didn't mean any harm by her post. If you want to argue with anyone about it, take it up with Brian. Had it not been for his remark Ziggy never would have been prompted to reply as she did.
Let it go, Ziggy ...

Ziggy, Give it a second thought. This board is just like most of life. "There are them that matter and them that don't." Do not let "them that don't" get you down.
Most of us are here to learn and, maybe, contribute a scrap of useful information for someone else.
Those who get their panties in a wad about "whatever" just don't matter. Don't let them drive you away.

I'm sorry everyone, I am an emotional mess right now( having just lost my good friend in a car accident) and it has nothing to do with these posts, I should not have come on here today but I just came on for something to do other than mourn my loss. I did use the wrong word for my meaning and I'm sorry, thats what I get for trying to be a hip grandma :) I always told my kids that their hip lango would get them into trouble one day, and here I am eating my words. I thank you all for you encouragement and kind words, normally this would not have bothered me as much, as I do believe we all have choices and some may not like mine. Again I'm sorry to all I offeneded with my choice of words, I meant no offense to anyone, encluding the whale.
I will be taking a few days from posting but will check in from time to time to read everyones posts, I think I'm addicted to this board and all the wonderful people on here :) Please everyone, let this drop and have a wonderful evening, get back to posting the good posts!

I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you are doing ok.
I feel must say, I also chose not to look at the photos, as my kids could tell you, I am also a big baby. I ran our Surburban off the road trying avoid hitting a baby squirrel, it caused damage to the vehicle and I didn't care. I hate to see any animal (or person) hurt or injured in any way, shape or form.
I think that you meant well, I'm sorry this has turned out this way - maybe if everyone just takes a step back (and a deep breath) we can start all over. :)
I have enjoyed your posts and hope you continue to contribute. I know you meant no harm, nor offense.

Ziggy don't let the hostility that often surfaces on this board get you down -- the pictures document a very unusual and unfortunate occurance -- there are some that are interested in it for that reason only -- it is a scientific curiousity as it is definitely not normal and certainly should be studied, not ignored, so it can be determined how and why it could happen. NO ONE was forced to look at them so what is THEIR problem? Because is it offensive to some they should have the right to dicate what we all must choose?
Don't let others get you down -- exercise your freedom to think and have your own opinions and if others misunderstand you that is their issue -- I do believe that most took the postings in the spirit that you intended.

Ziggy,
Thanks for posting a link to the whale pictures. I love whales and was very interested in the photos.
Earlier stories I saw indicated that it was unknown if the whale was struck and killed by the ship or if it was a dead whale that got scooped up onto the underwater bulb that protrudes from the bow of the ship.
From looking at the photos, it appears to me that it is quite possible the whale was already dead when scooped up onto the protruding bulb.
Ziggy, please do not leave these boards for providing a service for curious cruisers. Those without curiosity did not have to look at the photos.
I also enjoyed your interesting and enthusiastic review of your recent cruise!

Ziggy, I’m glad you’ve reconsidered. Personally, I can understand what you personally are going through. An expected death is hard. An unexpected one, it is horrid. May God bless and comfort you.
But, imo, there is a lesson here. I wonder how many other posters have been driven away who bring good information by the coven of know-it-alls that lurk here. Personally, I can think of two who have left.

Ziggy - no question, there is a 'clique' on this board! The 'clique members' gang up and make it tough for the chosen 'victim'......can't say that sometimes it isn't warranted!
:o ...cumon back!!!!Ok - I am going to respond to this post. Please do not be offended by my response because it is not directed at the poster, rather the general atmosphere of this thread and a few other related threads on the board today.
I'm not sure the reference to a "clique" on these boards is a fair assumption. There were several people that were upset about the fact that the pictures were related to as "cool."
Because a few posters have posted on these boards for a number of years - reducing their opinion to that as "cliquish" seems unfair. I guess I don't understand that label.
I believe the only thing most people objected to was the calling the pictures "cool". I do think a better word could have been substituted, and initially refrained from commenting altogether. I chose not to view the pics, but respected ziggy's right to post the thread - I also respect the fact that pudgesmom objected to it and posted such.
The entire premise of these boards (in my opinion) is a forum to express thoughts, observations & experiences about cruising. There will never be 100% agreement in all arenas - that is what makes each individual unique - but understanding another person's point of view will go a long way in understanding & acceptance of new and different ideas.
Labeling someone as a "victim" is hardly appropriate either, imo. Ziggy posted what she thought was informative and helpful - many of you agreed - but to resort to condemning those who disagreed as "clique members", hardly seems fair, in my honest opinion.

Ekerr - I respectfully disagree on this part of what you said. IMO, there is a clique or call it a group mentality - especially towards newcomers - on this forum. It particularly surfaces when someone challenges one of the long time regulars - its not unusual to see a host of folks spring to their defense in attacking the poor newcomer or person who presents a dissenting opinion. Its also prevalent with the Moderators quite frankly - as certain regulars seem to be able to say whatever they want while others can not without haveing posts removed, etc. Maybe clique isn't the right word - but to me its pretty close.
All that said, I do not think Ziggy was a victim of this clique or group mentality. Some people criticized the posting of the link but their whining was their whining alone, not that of the typical group of regular's response.

Ekerr, good catch!!! You are very observant! I would never have remembered Cruiseoften's other post. Color me impressed!
As to the way "new" posters are treated, we were all new once. I'm still considered "new" and I've been batted around a few times.....in fact mostly by Superstein. But I decided to chalk it up sort of an an "initiation"; a "right of passage". No big deal.
I don't think either Ziggy or Pudgesmom should be faulted for their opinions, but when we state something strongly or post something that could be controversial, then we're going to come up against some harrassment. That's human nature.
I don't think there's anything "cliquish" about this forum. Sometimes people have backed me up, sometimes not. I've only been posting with frequency for about 6 months and I can almost always figure out who's going to support my opinion and who's not.
That's life ... as I've said before you can't have a thin skin and be on these boards unless you simply lurk;)

Based on the comments it appears there's a characteristic of normal posting technique that Ziggy didn't do, and is acknowledging; that is using the PREVIEW POST feature.
Everyone should click that button and read his/her post carefully, and consider how the words (including the title) will be read and understood by the reader.
In this case it appears that Ziggy meant "cool" as meaning "unusual" or "remarkable," not as meaning "fun" or "neat."
In any case, it looks like the issue is resolved.

ekerr19 - my #11 post did not even suggest that Ziggy was wrong in posting the thread……….and certainly did not imply that the post should not have been made. Hubby and I are known in our area as "the folks who speak animal language."

Ziggy - did you check the meaning of 'cool'?
It's quite tragic that a whale died in that manner. Like some others here I looked at one picture and moved on.(unqote)
In a later post……..my use of the word 'clique' - well I don't think it can be denied that there are many posters who regularly exchange e-mails, and are obviously in 'sync' with each other and, quite naturally, back each other up.
I think superstein61 spelled it out correctly!.
I find the board very interesting but do not have the time or inclination to be on line for hours at a time and therefore seldom reply promptly to posts.
The use of the word 'victim' is for lack of something more descriptive - each cruise message board has it's accepted terminology - finding out just what that is can be the problem............I kinda stick my neck out and and go from there! :D

Superstein, you are in a clique all your very own:D and I, for one, often love you for it;) .
For once and for all, this is silly. There are no "cliques" on here. There are some people who tend to agree in general on some things and people who do not. Then there are people who like to disagree altogether. And when someone new comes on they really don't know what to expect and unfortunately sometimes get caught in the fray of all this.
And now you know "the rest of the story":)
