I have noticed that these 3 cabins on the Vista class ships look like they have either extended balconies or slightly larger ones.Anyone been in these cabins with these verandahs and comment? Thanks!

We had SS6117 last June on the Zuiderdam. We found it to be a wonderful cabin. The cabin is a bit larger than the other SS cabins...you have extra seating where the balcony door is. The verandah is longer than others and bent. You have a great views from it and you are not overlooking any lifeboats. We liked the configuration so much that we returned a few months later and booked S7088...same type of verandah on the other side of the ship. Enjoy!

6018 is an AA cat. cabin - did you get the number wrong?
Maybe you meant 6108  If so it is a handicap cabin and only has a shower.
We have one of these cabins booked for December, but on deck 8 - Navigation. I understand that the cabins have a little more room and are laid out differently from the regular SS cabins. Also the verandah is bigger. Will let you know what it is like when we return.

Have booked the same type of cabin (ss) with the larger deck for next year. Would like to know if the bed is pushed up against the wall. It looks like that on the photos. Also, post pic's if you can... PLEASE!!!
Thanks,
Michelle

Our bed was not up against the wall. There was a small night stand on each side. It was a great cabin & great verandah.

We were on the Westerdam last month in SS6100 and my parents were in SS6108 as they needed a disabled room. Quite honestly, unless you need the facilities, I would stick with a regular SS. There was slightly more space on the balcony due to the angular shape but not much. The 'angular' portion is on full view as it extends outwards. Their bathroom was larger than ours, which was ideal for their circumstances but did reduce the 'cabin' space a little. One thing I do recall is that the 'toilet' and the shower were in the same area behind a shower curtain. I assume this resulted in the toilet getting wet after one had showered !!!! All in all we much preferred 6100.
Having sailed in all verandah categories a number of times, I would give the SS grade a big thumbs up for comfort and value - they are excellent.
Happy sailing :)

Michelle - The only time that I know that a bed would be pushed up against the wall is if the room is set up as two separate twin beds. In that case the inside bed, the one closest to the bathroom wall, would be against that wall. When the beds are pushed together you have access from both sides.

On the pic's and the virtual tour the camera angle makes it look like it's against the wall (bed). Can't wait to be on a ship again...

I'll look through my pictures at home and see if we have more cabin pictures than those on our website ( www.geocities.com/theklugspage/ (http://www.geocities.com/theklugspage/) ) I can't imagine a double/queen size bed pushed up against a wall though I think I've seen that in smaller cabins. That certainly would put DW on the outside since she's one of those who has TWBS and is usually up once or twice during the night. :) I wouldn't put too much store in the some of the artist renditions/drawings for the SS cabin. I know the one on HAL makes it look like the bed is against the wall but it really isn't. The drawing also puts to lounge type chairs on the verandah but that's not exactly true either....two padded/cushioned chaise chairs with ottoman is the reality....at least for other than the aft cabins which have huge verandahs.

As far as I know the beds are not up against the wall - this would make it very difficult for the steward to make it up. We always have twin beds and One night table goes against the wall of the bathroom, then a bed, then the other night table and the other bed.
Some artists drawings do make it look like the bed is against the wall, but I have never seen this. There are usually 2 night tables, so if the bed is a queen, the tables go on either side of the bed.

KBC-Thanks for the info.....how did you like the new Westerdam?Did you do the Tortola route? How was the food and entertainment? We were in the Med (Rome to Lisbon) and found the Westerdam to be nothing short of fabulous. We were a tad concerned that we would find her a bit large after the other ships, but not at all. We were very impressed with the new 'SS' grade of staterooms, to be honest, apart from the absence of 'S' grade perks, we were just as happy. Superbly comfortable beds, good size bathroom and ample storage. Also the balconies are a very respectable size indeed. The new style plastic 'wicker' chairs are lovely. We used the laundry package - $109 unlimited laundry for the trip, which was well worth it. They have adopted new style laundry bags which are cotton and you can stuff as much as you can into a bag for $15 which I think is a good deal. It's amazing how much you can get in one bag if you roll everything up tight. I suppose this is because there is no self serve laundry on the new Vista ships.... The Pinnacle Grill was really excellent. The quality of the food, and in particular the service were second to none. We felt that the staff in there went to extraordinary lengths to make you feel very special. The entertainment was okay. The cast shows were really impressive, and a English magician/comedian, whose name escapes me, was very good.
Enjoy....
