My husband and I recently sailed on the Princess Ruby and now are planning our first cruise on the Eurodam this November. On Princess in order to get a good cup of fresh brewed coffee we had to either buy it or buy a coffee card. We do not drink specialty coffees. Just wondering if HAL offer brewed coffee free or if there is an option to buy the coffee card. Also we would like to know if there is a charge for the Tamarind Restaurant, we understand that it is $20 each for the Pinnacle. Thanks for all the quick responses and we are very excited about giving Holland America a try.

The Tamarind is $15 per person -- well worth it!!

You can get really good coffee along with specialty coffees at the Explorations Cafe located on the Starboard side of the Crows Nest. There is a coffee card available -- but just recently people are reporting that the card may soon be discontinued.

There is a charge for coffee at the Explorations Cafe. HAL's coffee isn't quite as vile as what we had on Princess :) I took my own french press coffee maker, and used it a couple of times on our last cruise. Mostly I did okay with the coffee in the dining room and Lido.

Tamarind only charged for dinner when we sailed on her, lunch was free - but reservations were required.

You didn't ask -
Dinner at Canaletto was also without charge, but again, reservations required

cooking lessons had a charge, but the demonstrations were free

Digital Workshop classes were free

We were on the Eurodam last month and I'm quite sure that coffee and tea (free) were available from morning to night in the Lido.

And if you're in a suite, the Neptune Lounge has beverages available when they are open (they close at 8pm.) Their coffee is wonderful....don't know about the Lido's as I usually took tea there.

Yes -- there is free coffee and tea in the Lido 24 hours a day.

I've done lots of Princess cruises, never paid for regular coffee, they charge for specialty coffee.
Tamarind is free at lunch, it was enjoyable. We bought a wine card which was a fantastic deal, I forget the price but roughly $3.00 a glass. HAL soft drink card is not as good as Princess, you get 20 drinks for $18 plus tax. Princess charges a little more for unlimited.
The Italian restaurant in a corner of the lido is free, reservations, dinner. I wanted to try it, DH did not.
Pinnacle Grill a great deal at $20, best specialty restaurant.

We did not have many extra charges compared to Princess. HAL's daily tipping charge may be $0.50 more per day, it was $11.00

We loved the Eurdodam, just a gorgeous ship. The buffet is fabulous, it is not 24 hours per day but much better quality, laid out like a food court.

The only complaint compared to Princess is entertainment is not as good.
