I have been reading about the buses and underground in Rome and have seen the trams mentioned. Has anyone had any experience with these. I can't find any info. about tickets, where you get on them, etc.
Thanks for any help.

We were just there, and I didn't see any electric trams. I wonder if they're talking about the double-decker, open-top busses? Bus 110 makes a circuit of the major tourist places. I think it's about 18 Euros to ride ... but you can hop on and off at will all day long. A certain number of tickets are available on the bus. There are shops/kiosks that also sell tickets.

'Vegas Jim, Thank you for the information regarding the busses. Were you in Rome just for the day as part of a cruise tour or did you stay at a hotel, and if so, where did you say.

We are booked for the Carnival Liberty next September which is RT Rome, and we are looking for recommendations for reasonable lodging pre-cruise.

Any information you cn give will be sincerely appreciated.

I was in Rome several years ago and used a tram from the Piazza del Popolo to our hotel. So I know of at least one electrical tram.

We were in Rome for six nights in March and we bought the pass that allowed us unlimited rides on the metro, bus, and tram. The trams are small and they're designed to travel on the narrow, winding streets of the older section of the city, as the full-sized busses won't fit.
We were on the Splendour's 7-night Med. in 2002 and we're doing it again 10/22/05 with daughter and her husband. They are sort of on a budget (as are we) and we're doing Rome on our own. The metro/bus passes are wonderful and we used them like locals. Just be sure and punch your ticket or have it ready to show and you can ride everywhere!!

Thanks Mimicsr, Did you use the same ticket for all? We have looked at that but from what we read the metro was limited to one ride. Although, I think it would be worth it for the rest of the benefits. We plan to do the 110 for one day.

JPLewis: Yes, one pass covers all modes of transport, incl. metro, trams, city busses, and I think you can get one that also covers your train fare to and from city. I'll have to check on that for sure. What is the 110 for 1 day; is that Rome-on-your-own with bus to and from ship?? If that is the case, you might want to check with others that are trying to get groups together of 6 or 8, such as Claudio or Daniele from driverinrome.com. If you have 6, your whole day in Rome with pickup and delivery back to the ship, wonderful commentary to all the different sites and they wait with the motor running to take you to the next site, All that is $100.00 per person. It's a fantastic deal if you've got 6 people. Check it out!!
