If you love trains as much as cruises and are interested in arriving or departing from your cruise on rail, be advised that Amtrak offers a 25% reduction in fare and accomodations when taking a train to your cruise.
The code is V570 for Holland America and V571 for carnival. You will need to call Amtrak to have this discount applied to your fare. The discount is applied to accomodations in addition to the fare. Remember that sleeper reservations are considered first class accomodations and include meals in the dining car.
Also, be aware that Amtrak has instituted new baggage rules that go into effect November 2nd.
If I could only ride a train to St. Lucia and a cruise back........

Is this for all trains? Next year, I will be taking a train from NYC to Boston. Not much of a ride and only about $54 when you factor in the geezer discount, but another 25% means that much more to spend during the cruise.

You will find the information now in the back of HAL's brochure. Just look for AMTRAK and the phone # 1-800-usa-rail.:) It's a good thing... Leslie

I booked my transportation using this discount code and saved myself some substantial $$$. I'm traveling round-trip from Boston to Fort Lauderdale in February to meet my cruise on the Westerdam. Round-trip with a sleeper in both directions cost me less than airfare is currently running. I also don't have to worry about snowstorms stranding me in Boston. Considering that I prefer to travel by train this was a no-brainer. I had to call the Amtrak 800 number though as you can't book this discount on-line. 1 800-USA-RAIL.
