My DH and I are looking a booking back to back cruises to Hawaii and Alaska next year, aboard either RCCL or HAL.

In reading online and in books, it mentions that cruise lines can offer up to a 50% discount for booking the second cruise. While 50% would be alot, I would think a little discount would be in order, or some other perk. Well I was in for a shock.

We were to see our travel agent yesterday. She called both RCCL and HAL. RCCL actually has a 'Back to Back" booking desk. The only perk you receive when you book with both lines is "you stay in the same statroom"!!! I can book the same stateroom for both cruises, so that isn't much of a perk.

Has anybody else booked back to back cruises? Did you receive any sort of discount on the second cruise?

We haven't seen any HAL discounts for B2Bs. However, HAL often offers deep discounts to Caribbean pax if they'll stay on board and book the next week's cruise. That's always a good deal, if your schedule allows. It's usually $299 inside/$399 outside.

We saw this offer on both Zuiderdam's E/W Carib. and Maasdam's cruise out of Norfolk.

We have done b-to-b's on Princess and never received any additional discount for booking the two segments.

We have done about 15 or so b-to-b's on HAL and have never received any additional discount for booking two consecutive segments.

There are times we got a different percentage discount for each cruise but it was only because ANYONE booking got that cruise got a discount in that range.
It was no special consideration for us being b-to-b.

We will ONLY book a b-to-b when the same cabin is available for both segments. If we would have to move, we would book different dates.

I booked a b2b for next summer on a NE/C with no discount that I could see. My TA didn't notice one, either, nor did they offer anything when she asked (and, believe me, she can ask).

We also booked a Canada/NE b-to-b for next June on Maasdam. We are thrilled with that booking and cannot wait. No extra discount on that booking either.

[QUOTE=Allis154]My DH and I are looking a booking back to back cruises to Hawaii and Alaska next year, aboard either RCCL or HAL.

Although HAL doesn't give any special discount for b2b cruises - it's still a great thing to do! This past May we sailed on HAL to/from Hawaii and stayed onboard for the first sailing of the season to Alaska. And even though we had to change cabins that was easily facilitated, and we could stay on the ship.

So I'd recomend HAL for your b2b. Seems to fit your wishes. And this would be especially handy for you, because the Amsterdam sails round-trip from Seattle to Hawaii as well as Alaska.

The Boston Tea Party begins June 25 2005. On July 2, in Montreal, I wave at all the people who are heading for their bus to the airport, as the ship turns around and starts a leisurely 7-day cruise to Boston Harbor for a July 9th tea party.

Oh My, we leave on the Maasdam on July 9th. Will we see any of this? We have never been to Boston or the upper Easter Coast for that matter, so we are looking forward to seeing some new areas. We arrive in Boston very early in the morning like 6:30 from a Redeye the night before out of Vegas.

What happens on the Maasdam, stays on the Maasdam.

As a rule, there are no discounts just because you book a back to back. Every so often there are back to back special rates on selected cruises. I think this occurs more often with New England and Canada cruises that are one way. Like most specials they are usually within 75 days of the cruise and made available on sailings that have not booked very well.

And they even take care of the pax that had already booked and paid for a b2b in advance!

True, I guess there aren't "official" discounts for b2b's ... but if you book during hurricane season, you sure get a nice rate! I still can't get over how little I spent for 14-days onboard the Zuiderdam! I can't imagine any land vacation that would have been that cheap ... and believe me, I tend not to deny myself anything that I want when on vacation. After the onboard credits were applied, plus the prepaid shore excursions that were credited back to my account when they were cancelled, I think my account at the end of 14-days only cost me about $500 to settle!

Then, to boot, I got a 25% (of the second week's cruise payment) discount to apply toward a future cruise.

Like I said, I can't imagine a land vacation that would have come out so cheap!

Blue skies ...
