Is most of Punta Del Este within walking distance of the cruise pier? Should we hire a taxi if we want to see Casapueblo and the Ralli Museum? If so, how much should we expect to be charged for a taxi tour, booked on the spot? Or...is there a tour company that any of our previous cruisers can recommend that gives a good over-all tour of Punta Del Este?

Short answer to your question, yes most of the city is within walking distance. You can read what we did in punta del este here http://theboomerlive.com/2007/12/22/azamara-journey-s-america-cruise-2007-punta-del-este/#more-162 or the photos here http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=punta&w=21288008%40N04 (http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=este&w=21288008%40N04)
At the pier there are people from the tourist office, they have city maps with the sights listed and plenty of taxis (inexpensive)

Have a great cruise, we enjoyed Punta del Este

I seem to remember Caspueblo was $15 to $20, but I can't remeber if it was each way, the taxi driver will wait for you.

If you get the taxi in town ( not the pier) it will be less expensive. The main taxi stand/office is across from the "fingers monument"

Thank you, boomers, for the info on Punta del Este. I'll be happy when we have a map of Punta in our hands. I have three guide books for SA and none has such a map. It's always good to know where one is going!

There will be many tours in the port but you can also walk, but to CasaPueblo you need to take a taxi
