It appears that cruise.co.uk have taken all the Island Star questions/reviews off their site. This would make this the only site for questions etc. or does anyone know of another site

I phoned cruise.co.uk this morning and the operator said that they would not have pulled island cruises, and it was probaly maitainance being carried out on the site(bullsh*t).

Hi folks

What shore excursions are you going, on can you recommend any, or are you doing your own thing when the ship docks. We on the 12th of February cruise and are looking at the shore excursions from Island Cruises but they do seem rather expensive. So if you know any good trips or have any tips about doing the trips privately could you let me know. We hope to go ziplining in St Lucia and will have to book that before we go on the cruise.
Any info will be greatly appreciated,
Sporan180 :)

Hi Sporan,
We were going to book some trips online but after reading all the reviews have decided to wait and see apart from the Dunns River Falls, it's highly recommended that you book an organised trip in Jamaica.

Interested in zip lining though, can you point me to the site for this.

Counting days and hours now (1st time cruisers)

Are you going on the same cruise and where are you from, we stay in Falkirk.

we have booked the following

Harrisons Cave - Barbados

Island Panorama - British Virgin Islands

Catamaran - sail/snorkel - St Maarten

These 3 excursions came to £166 for the 2 of us - so not bad! - we paid £100 each in Tenerife for a Cat trip ! (mugged I think !)

we definitely want to do something in Aruba but will leave booking that until we are on board and also St Lucia - appently there is a volcano/mud bath excursion (think steve did this) can't find it online so poss only bookable on board. Zip lining would be fab but hubby really not keen for me to do it - he has a heart attack when I go Parasailing lol.

We will not do anything in Jamaica as hubby has been there twice and we went 4 yrs ago - Dunns River Falls was okay but not the best place to be if you are not stable (on foot - not mentally lol)

Hoping to get off and look around everywhere else as well - will wait and see what is to offer tho - I am a bit addicted to snorkelling so want to do as much as possble.

Hi Wullie

we are doing the cruise after you on 02/12/2009 and it has a different intinary although some of the same islands as your cruise, Barbados,
St Kitts and St lucia.
I found this site for trips http://www.shoretrips.com/common/search2.asp?rcode=CAR
some trips still seem expensive but I think I will book the ziplining in St lucia.
UK Girl who did you book your trips through ? Yeah I think you were mugged in Tenerife.

We booked through Island Cruises - you just put in your booking ref and name and it gives all the excursions available.

Hi Ange,

As you say, can't see the St Lucia volcano trip on Island Cruises website now but it used to be on there. Would be surprised if they didn't do that trip as it was quite popular.

Graeme, as you say excursions are expensive but I'm afraid its the same no matter what cruise line you use. We did 3 excursions and despite the cost we thought they were value for money. I see you are on the same cruise we did at Xmas so you may find the review I did helpful in regards to the beach visits we did.

Cheers....Steve

Hi There,

we're also going on the 12th Feb from Glasgow and enjoyed the website regarding the reviews, there are another couple of others, ship happens and holiday truths, there aren't many positive on these so don't know if you want to look...

Will look into this.

Ange,
Sulphur & volcano visit very smelly although they say it's good for your health :)

Hi Choaps,
Just about ready to give up reading the reviews from other sites, in my opinion the majority do nothing but moan, not just about Island Cruises but other lines as well.

I find this site much more friendly than cruise.co.uk. It would appear you have to come from a certain background, i.e. don't smoke, no tattoos, never been to Butlins/Pontins, spelling has to accurate, dislike children and don't criticise the answers given by main contributors to that site (if they are reading this they will know who they are), before you can be accepted.

Steve and another gave what we thought was an honest and fair review, not everything is perfect, but what is.

One of our mottos is "You are where you are and just get on with it"

I did read a review this morning and the person moaned from the start to the end and then said "overall they enjoyed themselves" and gave it 3 stars !!!

This is our first cruise, we are really looking forward to it and we are going with an open mind and aim to enjoy ourselves.

I see you are flying out on the 12th. We will be flying home on the flight that brings you out, so keep my seat warm lol :)

Hi Cool Cruiser,

I agree totally, if you go on with the view to picking up on every fault then your due to find a few, I'm sorry but I'm on holiday to enjoy myself to the max. We were on honeymoon last yeart at a 6 star resort in Mexico, and sure as there was the gang who just picked and picked at really stupid things i.e drunk people!!! I'm sorry we're all from Glasgow don't tell me drunk people annoy you....

have a ball whatever you do and keep in touch if you can so we can fiun out an honest review...:D

Don't apologise for coming from Glasgow. We stay in Falkirk and my father was Glaswegian, so there is a connection....
Even though I don't drink (personal choice) drunk people don't annoy me unless they become abusive and violent.
I smoke and in other peoples eyes that's worse !!!!

yay we are well in then - we smoke, drink , have tattoos and..............butlins ? Pontins - think hubby fixes their electrical stuff !

I would like to think that everyone is out to have a great holiday!

Those who want to moan about everything are evidently fortunate enough not to have anything else to worry about !

look forward to meeting you guys - will look out for the Scottish accent - we are southerners !

Hi all, We went on this cruise at the beginning of december. If you like a drink and a smoke I think you,ll enjoy this ship. The staff were fantastic and plenty going on day and night. From reviews of other ship,s it would appear this is one of the best for the smokers. So nice to be able to enjoy a night in the pub or club with a drink and a cigarette. We thought the entertainment was really good and bumped into several people who were on the ventura who were complaining about theirs. Would advise an organised trip in jamaica. We went rafting down the great river and then up to a banana plantation. Quite expensive. Think it was about £70 but it was really different. There are poolside games on when the ship is sailing all day. Butlins / Pontins ?. I dont know but any that we joined in were fun and there is no pressure if you dont want to. Just wish we were going on it again . Have a good time!!!

Your comments about cruise.co.uk are spot on. It's more like a social networking site for the elite few. I've written to cruise.co.uk a few times because I thought some of the answers and comments were quite intimidating. Never got a reply!!

Hi guys
My wife & Myself are from Glasgow and we are also off on the 12th Feb
could anyone inform us can we use Barbados Dollars in any other islands
we are going to , as we don't normally book any excursions with the ship
and like to do our own thing ! , we are pleased to see other Scots are
going on the same ship as us as we are going to have a good time !!
if anyone wants to share a taxi with us in to various places and then do your own thing just me know ,we find that is the best way to keep the cost down and have more "swally" money:cool: anyway thanks for the info
on the Barbados Dollars in advance !

Hi Bluenile

The short answer is 'no'! In fact we had a bit of a dispute in Bridgetown, because a taxi driver didn't want our Barbados dollars, he wanted US ones and we had left 'them' on the ship (well, you would presume that Barbados Dollars would be OK in Barbados, wouldn't you!?). All the shops take both Barbados and US dollars though.

Other islands:-
We took quite a few Eastern Caribbean dollars with us as they are the currency in quite a few of the ports. Also, don't forget that Martinique is French, so euros are the local currency (making everything expensive too!).

US dollars are accepted everywhere

Hope that helps? Enjoy your cruise!

Good to know you are looking for someone to share a taxi, been a while since we have been on a cruise but last time, 2004, we shared taxis as well and its definately cheaper than booking tours. We are planning to go zip-lining in St Lucia and a boat trip in Barbados but thats all so far. So happy to share. 10 days to go and ready to party!
