I am sailing on the Rotterdam on 20Oct on 10 day roundtrip NYC to New England and Canada.
I would like to try the Pinnacle one night when there is nothing special (like lobster or Chateaubriand, etc.) being offered in main dining room. Anyone have a suggestion? Is there a site that lists a detailed day by day menu? Is the menu in the Pinnacle the same each day?

We usually dine there the first night out for three reasons:
1. If you book it before departure from HAL guest services it is only $10/person.
2. The first night dinner is usually nothing special.
3. We dine later than normal the first night.

We usually dine at the Pinnacle on Dutch night. Since they took Dover Sole off the DR menu, there are no entrees of interest to us. The menu in the Pinnacle is the same every night, although on Formal Night I believe  you can also order lobster. Menu links are in my sig below.

My vote is for first and last nights in the Pinnacle.

First night is nice, because the prices are usually 1/2 price. Also if they are having "dutch" night go then. Alot of people don't like the dutch menu in the main dining room.

Any night except the formal nights would be my vote. Depending on when you are traveling the first night is questionable. If you travel the day you cruise, you might be very tired from the long day and not enjoy it as much as you should.

We went the first night of our second week and what a mistake that was! Pinnicle was wonderful! The part that was a mistake didnt become apparent until the next night in the dinningroom. We did a b2b and at the end of our first week the Maiter'd came to our table and asked us if we would like to stay at the same table the next week, and although our servers were great DH and I wanted to sit up by the windows, which our Maiter'd brightly smiled and said he had a wonderful table for us, and would send us our table number to us in our stateroom by the end of the week, which he did. Well I guess the numbers were put on the tables incorrectly the first night but were done properly the next night. So when we arrived the next night to our table, we were the first to arrive so we sat down right in front of the beautiful floor to ceiling window, we were soooooo happy! About 10 minutes later a family of 8 arrived at our table of 8 and never said anything, just went and got the server to tell us we were at the wrong table " theirs" , we promptly asked to speak with the Maiter'd, who showed up to tell them they were at the wrong table not us, well long story short we told the Maiter'd we would move so that their 2 table for 8 family could stay together. We moved to a new window table with table mates from Mars hehehe. The Maiter'd never forgot this and checked on us every night to make sure we were happy, we felt special :)
So if you do go on the first night, go early and meet your table mates or if late seating go meet them after your done. That way you will know of any problems there might be :)

Menus do not necessarily follow the same rotation on every cruise. For instance, Dutch night could be on a Tuesday or Wednesday (just an example). I believe that Lobster night is always the next to last night of the cruise. You will have to check the menu rotation when you are on the ship. Usually they have that information at the Info Desk and will usually let you look at the menus when they are not real busy.

Eat there on Dutch night....you will only miss the "chocolate tulip"....it is good, but it is the only edible thing on the menu that night.

There's actually quite a bit that's far better than simply "edible" on Dutch night. It may not be to your taste, but that doesn't mean others won't enjoy it immensely.

If you go to Pinnacle on the last night, you would not be in the dining room to say goodbye to your stewards and to extend a 'small thank you'......of course, only if you wish to tip them something extra.

I agree, but we were unable to do that on the last night of our Alaska Explorer cruise anyway. Since we were in Victoria that evening, they condensed dinner into one open seating in the upper dining room. Neither the service nor food were quite as good as we'd received all week (of course half the staff were ashore, I'm sure)

Shoulda done a Pinnacle dinner-party again like last time...

There's no reason why you can't stop into the DR on your way to or from the Pinnacle, though. That's what I intend to do on our next cruise....
