This may be a dumb question, but .............. I have been reading about Hunky Dory in the Lido. Who is he and where is he in the Lido?

And I'll try not to give a "dumb" answer. Hunky Dory is a steward (or assistant steward) assigned to the Lido during breakfast and lunch.
He greets everyone with a great big smile and asks their name. Then he proceeds to greet everyone for the rest of the cruise with that same big smile while using your name. His exact assignment could vary each cruise.
It's the friendliness of the crew and the fact that they will remember you even years later that brings so many of us back over and over and over and....

He is such a fun and pleasant fellow ....but, alas, he only getrs the names right about 50% of the time!! We always get a big kick out of him.
He asked DH his name (about the 10th cruise we have gone through this with him :) ) and DH answered, "You'll have to guess". So Hunky Dory called him 'the secret man'. Next time he saw me pass by, he actually did remember from previous cruises that DH and I 'belonged' together and told me what my husband said to him. I laughed and then said...Well, I guess I'm to be the 'secret lady'. That he did remember and each time we saw him after, he got those titles right. :D
He's a charming fellow with a big smile who tries to brighten everyone's day just a little bit. Hard not to get a kick out of him.

I met Hunky Dory on our 8/28 Zuiderdam cruise and I told him I would talk about him on cruise critic and he got all excited and was telling everyone. He seems to remember the ladies' names better than guys'...gosh, that's a lot like me. He truly is amazing though. He will say hello to everyone that he has previously met and greet them by name.

Yes, he is such a sweet steward, we even tipped him a little at the end of our cruise, he would always help my DH carry stuff when he had to use his cane, even if I was there to help him, so DH always knew Hunky Dory would come to his rescue and therefor used his cane more instead of enduring the pain, althought several stewards gladly helped my DH, it was Hunky Dory that made him feel special, to me that was what a tip is all about :)

He's part of what makes HAL so wonderful. I met him for the first time on the 8-28 cruise also. After that he greeted me by name every morning in the Lido ... along with "have a hunky dorey day!"
Gotta love him!

He's fun! I was on the Z for about an hour for lunch last month and he was chatting it up with me.
He asked how I knew him and I said that he was famous !

We met him at the Lido buffet the 2nd morning of our cuise. He got my name right away, but my husbands name is Juan and he had trouble with that one. So my husband told him.."Juan, like ONE, two, three..." Each morning he would shout to us as we approached the buffet "ONE, TWO, THREE!!" He is a gem and deserves a raise, employee of the month or something. We left him a tip for going way above and beyond!

--ritaRita, I loved how you put it into words like you did!! He is ONE of the many people that made my trip on the 27th of Sept. so wonderful! I too told him that he was famous on this board and he smiled from ear to ear. When I would go to the Lido for breakfast he and I would always sing a song together....Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious or Oh what a beautiful Morning!! He started the morning off great!! I hope he's on for my next "Z" cruise!! Nancy:)
