What a great cruise the 3 of you have coming up, and what a beautiful time of year. Is it too late to see the Fall Foilage? Living here in Vegas we do not see the leaves change color till late November into December. Then it does not last long. We have to drive up to Utah to see any this time of year.

Have a Wonderful time!!!!!

Remember, folks: daytime, golf shirt with "Larry King" microphone and braille dots on it; nighttime, tie and jacket, Lido, tea and book. Sailaway either on the Lido behind the aft pool or on the Sports Deck. People say I look like a model, but I'm not sure what I'm a model of; probably the "before" picture of someone who didn't live right.

I dunno. I wasn't chasing rich widows all over the ship, if that counts. I also watched my jokes, as you are more of a lady than I am a gentleman. I did say, "please" and "thank you" more than I do at my day job, and did not quote the Vice President when he addressed the Honorable Senator from Vermont on the floor of the Senate.

Does that count?

I'm very personable on the radio, I write well and people feel I'm reasonably funny. In real life, not much of a party guy. RuthC hung out at the piano bar and I hung out in the Lido with my book; we'd meet late in the evening and chat for half an hour. Usually, I'm up on the Sky Deck wondering how the stars stay in the sky and don't fall down on us. I also wonder how the captain knows which way to go when it's foggy; do you think he ever gets lost and has to stop to ask directions?

Dave...

No. You can see his ears. Nobody's seen my ears since sometime in the 70's. People have been born, lived fruitful lives and died without ever knowing that I have ears.

Wish I did, but I am not an organized person. She sleeps on the other side of the bed. You know, that kind that indexes their "to-do" lists. :)

I'm organized in many ways, but I don't know which ports we will be visiting, or in which order. I know a few of them.

DH and I had to cancel our cruise yesterday. 92 year old Dad is having shortness of breath and an irregular heart beat. We just lost mom (age 94) on October 3 and would not think of leaving him when he is not feeling well. We have a nurse companion that stays with him during the day and we sleep at his house at night. We wouldn't be able to sleep on the ship thinking of him at home. Thank goodness we always take insurance.

I'll look forward to reading the reviews. Have an extra lobster for us!

Oh Carol:(
I am so sorry to hear that.:( I sure hope that he stabilizes soon. You all have had such a time in Florida, I know you were looking forward to your trip. I hope he is better really soon and that you are able to schedule a makeup trip soon.

Carol-

Sorry to hear that as well. I couldn't imagine leaving him either. Hopefully he feels better soon. You will have another opportunity cruise, but time to spend with an elderly parent - well, that time is invaluable.

Carol...

VERY sorry to hear the news. Hope all goes well at home. You would not feel right being on a cruise at this time. I'll keep you and your father in my thoughts & prayers.

I am still in awe of how caring all of you are on this board. It gives me goose bumps sometimes. I do appreciate your kind words and prayers. A month ago I didn't think we would be given any time to spend with dad. Each day with him is a blessing.

It was a working cruise trip anyway. We usually sail on the ship we use for our Dixieland Jazz Cruise about six to ten weeks before our big group. We need to schedule the entertainment and complete the entire dining room seating. It is so easy to do this on the ship but with phones and faxes back and forth to Seattle and the ship we will do fine. January 5 is not that far away. And come March we will be ready for our real vacation. Statendam Hawaii or back to back Wind Star? We haven't decided yet.

Carol, when this thread popped up and I saw you had to cancel I felt it in my gut as I would for a close friend. As positive as you are being about it, I'm sure you were really looking forward to it and I feel so terribly badly for you. Thank goodness January is around the corner for you and you'll have something to look forward to.

Having a 93 year old mom myself, I know how you feel. I value every day she remains on this earth. But you are obviously a good soul because there are people who would just say "bye bye" and go. That you want to stay by his side speaks volumes.

So you, your family and your Dad will most certainly be in my prayers tonight.

I do still hope to meet you on the Maasdam next summer.

Carol, your father is blessed to have such a caring daughter. I will keep you all in my prayers as you have kept my sister in your prayers in the past. I'm not sure if you remember, but I shall never forget.
Fondly,
Dee (Diane)

So sorry to hear that. I do hope my daughters are as gracious to me when I get "old".

There'll be other chances to cruise, but quality time with your dad may get harder to come by. Best of luck to you all...
