When I called HAL, I was told that I could not buy a transfer from Rome to ship without purchasing their hotel package. I have chosen to go with my own hotel choice because of cost. In the past, I have been able to meet the transfer bus at the cruiseline's (Princess) hotel choice and gone with them. Am I getting the right information? I know sometimes we get mixed answers. I booked this trip directly, so I do not have an agent to ask.

I can't answer you question directly, but if you find the roll call for your cruise, you might find people doing their own transfer who need another passenger, or can recommend a company (usually less expensive than HAL). Also try the ports of call Europe board. EM

Welcome to Cruise Critic! :)

Have you checked to see if your hotel does transfers? Many of them will transport you from the airport to hotel and from hotel to ship. There may be a fee, but it makes it very easy. And no, I don't think you got it wrong, I don't think you can buy a transfer through HAL without getting their hotel package.

actually if you had a TA you could buy HAL's port transfer for $95. We did that and then discovered Stefano @ rome cabs dot com and found his rates much more reasonable and cancelled our HAL transfer. He is doing all our transfers and even our post cruise tour for a really reasonable rate, try him

Hi,

Are you staying in Rome or at airport. You will find great info on how to use the train to get to the port for very little money--look on port info boards. I did the train last year and it was very easy and cheap.
