I searched but could find nothing about portable steamers. I know we can't bring irons, but wondered if portable steamers are okay.

Yes, they are permitted so far as I know.

I always bring one.....but rarely use it.

I heard not but it doesn't make any sense as they allow hair driers....??? At least steamers are self-extinguishing....
;)

See you soon....

Thanks! Personally, I don't need one. I buy what are called "travellers" clothes and they shake out! And I pack with tissue or the rollup method ... both of which work marvelously for me. But my friend (who has never cruised before) is insistant that she can't life without a steamer.

We have a small steamer (barely over hand sized) and bring it on every cruise though, admittedly, don't use it often. I don't recall ever seeing anything about not bringing or using one. I can't imagine why it would be any more of a risk than a hair dryer or other personal appliance, irons excepted of course. Maybe I've missed something.

Your friend should try life with the unlimited laundry and pressing service (cost us around $95 for 13 days, I think, and we used over $200 worth according the per-item price list). Hard to go back to doing your own, and no extra packing required.

(P.S. -- don't bring up the idea of bringing any blenders, unless you like a lot of feedback)

ROTFL!!!:D So funny ... don't worry! I'm not bringing up blenders!! Thanks, though, I will mention the unlimited pressing and laundry. Wonder what it is for 7 days. I'll have to look into it.

We took our little clothes steamer but never used it, I packed with alot of plastic dry cleaning bags, the few thing I needed to touch up I use the wrinkle releaser, it was quicker hehehe :)

Aw shucks, I thought you were referring to clam steamers. Here I thought you were fixing to do up a big clambake on your verandah.:D

Thanks, Gizmo ... unbelievable! What is so wrong with the balcony chairs on the Oosterdam? Does anyone know? No matter how bad they may be, no way I'm lugging a chair on my cruise no matter how much it folds up:rolleyes: .

I really have to stop reading these boards ... they make you nuts!
