Someone told me that there are catacombs in Cairo, does anybody know if this is true?

Define catacombs. There is a large underground Roman burial site (about 2100 years old) called Kom ash-Shuqqafa that is marketed as the Cairo Catacombs.

As Paul says, there are catacombs in Cairo but they are not well known. Most people visit the ones in Alexandria (where cruise ships generally dock) -- are those the ones you've heard about?

The one's I was told about are suppose to be in Cairo. I heard about the ones in Alexandria but these are suppose to be some where near the pyramids in cairo.
