While on our Jan. 19 Journey cruise in the Caribbean, we met Tony Markey, who has come over from Seabourn replacing Sue Denning as Cruise Director. Tony is originally from London, is a talented singer, and has a university background in science. He had just come from the Far East and was adjusting to the time change on this cruise before starting his job officially. I found his web site on the internet. http://tonymarkey.com/

He seems both energetic and pleasant and should fit in on Journey just fine, especially with all the Brits who seem to have discovered Azamara.

Tony was the CD on the Azamara Quest cruise that we took recently from Hong Kong to Singapore. On that cruise, he was certainly energetic and interacted well with passengers, and could sing quite nicely, although some people felt that his way of making public announcements and introducing performers in the cabaret lounge was a little 'forced.'

Interesting that he was on the Quest. He never mentioned it, saying he was coming from Seabourn.

He joined the Quest in late November, in Athens for the Far East run, as a temporary replacement for the current director(I can't remember the name) who was due a few months leave. He may be in the same capacity on the Journey.

We were also on the 3rd Jan (Hong Kong to Singapore)cruise with Tony as CD. We also thought he was very personable and visible around the ship - and a thoroughly nice man!

Hope he will be the cruise director when we sail on the Journey on June 6th.

Does anyone know where Sue Denning is going? Will she still be with Azamara in the future? She was our cruise director for a November sailing in Europe and we liked the job that she did.

Tony spontaneously came over to me during the CC meeting on board our recent Journey cruise to tell me of several wonderful swimming beaches he had discovered during his travels.

He is one of those people who feels good to be with, right from the outset. His charm is not studied, but appears to flow from a generous nature and a real interest in, and liking of, others.

Whatever his qualities and talents as an entertainer and a cruise director, even though they may turn out to be sterling, they could only be secondary to his quality as a human being. There is something about Tony that you will remember with your Heart, long after the cruise is over.
