Holland America Line Selects LG Electronics as Brand of Choice for
Stateroom Flat-Panel TVs

LG LCD Technology Sets Cruise Line Standard for Premium Entertainment

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 20
Holland America Line, the highest-rated premium cruise line, has
selected LG Electronics to equip its staterooms with more than 9,000
LCD televisions into its fleet of five-star ships over the next three
years as part of its 'Signature of Excellence' initiative. This marks
the first high-profile installation of LCD technology in cruise-line
staterooms, replacing bulky picture-tube TVs.

Reinforcing LG's position as a premium consumer electronics brand in
the United States, the initial installation on a Holland America Line
vessel was the ms Ryndam, which is set to launch today in San Diego.
The Ryndam, named the "Ship of the Year" in 1996 by the World Ocean &
Cruise Liner Society, will conduct a dramatic re-launch today to
introduce the ship's new product and service enhancements, including a
new Culinary Arts Center, Explorations Cafi and 700 LCD televisions
ranging from 20- to 27-inches in screen size, from LG Electronics. By
April 2005, more than 3,500 LG LCD TVs will be installed on almost
half of the fleet.

"We initiated the $225 million 'Signature of Excellence' to provide
our guests with the finest amenities possible, including the latest
in-room entertainment. As a pioneer in LCD technology, LG was the
obvious choice," said Richard D. Meadows, senior vice president,
marketing and sales of Holland America Line. "LG Electronics' LCD TVs
offer a sleek and elegant premium experience for our customers. And
LG's premium brand positioning dovetails perfectly with Holland
America Line's luxurious environment."

"LG is dedicated to developing leading-edge display technologies for a
wide variety of audiences, including the lodging industry," said Ron
Snaidauf, vice president, commercial products, LG Electronics USA,
Inc. "Our partnership with the Holland America reinforces our
commitment to providing total solutions to our customers, and their
customers."

As more high-end cruise lines follow the luxury trend, LG will
continue to target this market with other similar high-end
installations. LG's LCD TVs will allow guests to enjoy visual clarity,
while its sleek, space-saving design complements the cruise line's
theme of sophistication and elegance.

LG's 20-inch LCD TV (Model RU-20LA80C) is equipped with LG's
high-performance liquid crystal display technology, and offers 640 x
480 resolution, sleep timer and child lock, among many other features.
With its wide 170-degree viewing angle, guests will be able to view
the screen clearly from nearly all angles in the stateroom. It boasts
an exceptional contrast ratio of 800:1 and peak brightness of 500
cd/m2 for picture quality unmatched for clarity and brightness, even
in well-lit rooms.

;)They're only 20 and 27 inch panels, and very thin. They should fit fine. Just bring bubble wrap with you. Wouldn't want to break the china from the Pinnacle.:D

Steve,I will be on the Volendam 12/6, but I will check in to see if you have made a quick post on the Ryndam. I'm so excited that you get to be aboard so soon.:D :D For those of us that will miss the "event" this afternoon on the Ryndam, does anyone know if it will be replayed anywhere else?

I'm thrilled they're going with 20" and 27" units. Our SS on the Prinsendam had just a 12" or 13" Sony in the cabinets ... and it was difficult to read data on the screen while lying on the bed. It seemed kind of skimpy to me for the quality of the cabin. I just hope they'll be installed by our next August sailing on the Prinsendam (again.)

Why do you need bubble wrap?

They actually provide you with moving blankets in your cabin just for the sole purpose of safely packing up your flat screen TV

okay okay they technically refer to them as towels and bathrobes, but they serve the same purpose. :)

This is even another exciting note. I can't wait to report back to everyone about this:D Now I wonder with this new technology if they will have a system where you can see you ship board account in your room? That would be nice. Gee, I wonder if we get one of the 27" ones in a Suite:rolleyes: In all honestly I really am starting to get excited for so long it seemed so far away that you try no to think about it but with just 24 days to go and todays Relaunch this makes it really exciting. Now I just hope I can figure out how to watch it.

Brian-

Try Orcrone's method of removing dinnerware (oops, make that SERVING pieces...) from the Pinnacle - right down the front of your tux jacket. :D

Am I the only one who could care less about television while on a cruise? Guess it is multi function but while were on the Ryndam in December anyone is welcome to our's..I might even help you pack it.

LAFFNVEGAS
October 20th, 2004, 01:54 PM
You know the best way to pack all these things is just to bring an extra suite case. When you board you place one smaller suit case in a larger suit case. You know the way luggage sets are packed when you buy new ones:p Then you suddenly have extra room. I honestly don't think I would bother with bubble wrap those new towels should do just fine. Gee a 27" flat screen will be a nice Christmas present for DH:eek:

October 20th, 2004, 01:56 PM
No you're not the only one tankerjo2:D . I suppose they will only be installed in balcony cabins, since most occupants of inside cabins never spend anytime in them.:D :D I never thought comparisons of cruiselines might come down to TV quality, but I guess its on the way.

Easy folks, it says "..... over the next three years ....." on this. By then this may be replaced by REAL entertainment in your cabin instead.
