We just got home today from our 2/1 sailing of the Westerdam. I am going to write a review for the Review tab soon. Just wanted to state a few things now.
First over all, we enjoyed this cruise. Most of the people on the cruise were 65 +, making us some of the younger people on board. This was not a problem for us. The crew were constantly cleaning the ship and it is an attractive ship with a lot of art work and live flowers. I was particularily impressed with the potted orchids on each table in the Lido restaurant.
The food was good both in the dining room and Lido. (not great, but they are cooking for 1800 guests).
We thought this ship had much more motion than any other that we have sailed on. There was one day when the seas were pretty rough but even when it was calm we noticed the motion.
The weather was warm, hot actually and also windy in all 3 ports - Half moon cay, Aruba and Curaco.
We spent most of the time on the ship relaxing, and sunning. We only went to 2 shows - both were good.
Okay, that's if for now.

We were on this sailing as well....probably among the younger guests. We had a wonderful time, but found some of our fellow passengers to be....crabby. It was a demanding crowd, to say the least!

As someone who will be taking this particular cruise this Winter, I would highly appreciate any and all of you who are willing to write a review. I find them very helpful. The Westerdam seems to have very few review updates on it...so I have been chomping at the bit to read some recent reviews. Feel free to be extensive, I don't mind novels at all. Thanks :)

Whew! It's nice to know other people noticed the "crabbiness" as well. I was amazed how rude some of our fellow passengers were, especially to ship's staff. And it wasn't just one or two incidents, it was a few each day! I even made note of it in the mid-week "let us know how we're doing" survey.....Lord knows the higher-ups have no control over passengers moods or personalities but I found the incidents very disconcerting.

Other than that, we had a wonderful time as well. It was my sister and BIL's first ever cruise and even though she was recovering from a lung infection, they had a great time (a 7 out of 10, no less). We had dinner in the Pinnacle Grill late in the week and it lived up to all my expectations. Every course was prepared as ordered and the service was impecable. I finished off with the famous chocolate volcano cake and I'm still dreaming of it! I can think of no better way to finish off a wonderful meal than with a pot of molten chocolate :).

Both of our cabins were great, although I never did get to meet my cabin stewards but they never missed a beat. The ship, imo, looks better than it did two years ago when I took my first ever cruise.

We originally had AYWD but on embarkation day we met with the dining room manager and put in a request to switch to fixed which, by the time our 8pm reservation came along, had been granted. We were assigned a window side table for 10 at 8pm and our tablemates (7 of which were continuing on, doing a b2b) were delightful.

I could go on and on but I have loads of work to catch up on........but if anyone has any questions, I'll try to answer!

We started making notes as well, and comparing "stupid whining of the day" stories. We overheard people mad at having to get their own coffee in the Lido, mad that the swizzle stick didn't have the ship's name on it, upset that they were served regular coffee and not decaf, rude to the bartender about soda card punches being good for a glass and not a can of soda.... Man, I was just thanking my lucky stars that I was on that awesome vacation...they should have been grateful that's all they had to complain about! We even saw a woman give a thumbs down at the farewell dinner when the head waiter dude said something about the great food. I mean come ON!

Someone wanted a discount on her cruise for something lame, and I just cannot remember what it was!

We joked that the crew was probably calling the ship the Wester DAMN, these people are crabby.
