I would like to know if HAL runs a ship's shuttle from the port of Katakalon into Olympia. I cannot find one listed on their excursions, but since mere transportation would not, technically, count as an excursion, perhaps it wouldn't be listed anyway. Does anyone know or remember if their HAL cruise offered such a thing?

I know a train runs from the port into Olympia, and we may well take it into Olympia, but with our ship being in port such a short time, I would like some different options.

Thanks!

We took the shore excursion that went to Olympia. I recommend it since it's a pretty good distance from the ship. Trains are generally reliable and on time, but ... stuff happens. I do not recall their being just a shuttle.

We contacted a taxi (Go to the ports board). There were 4 of us and paid about half of whatthe ship wanted. We made a number of stops including a lovely seaside restaurant for lunch before heading back to the ship. If you wish the name of the taxi, email me at tbreinathargraydotcom.

We were there in 2007 and I don't remember a shuttle, either. We did, though, walk off the ship with another couple, and just "found" a taxi. He took us to Olympia, and left, after we agreed to a pick up time. We also had his cell number, but he returned right about when we had said to get us. Took us where we wanted to go after that.

So...if you wish to wing it, it is a possibility. The HAL tour, left REALLY early---they were about done when we got there, and on the way to somewhere else--but the plus side was there were guides, which we didn' t have. I THINK there were folks standing around offering to guide though, but I may have that confused with another historical site...:o

I would, probably, do a taxi before the train, and leave plenty of time to get back to the ship. It seems as though it was a pretty good distance.

We took the ship's excursion to Olympia in 2008 and it was very well done - worth the price of admission. The ruins are quite interesting and having a guide explain everything is very informative.

8 of us took the train this past April. It is a very short walk to the train station from the dock. It cost something like 3 Euro each round trip. You need exact change. Very short walk from the train station to the ruins and museum. There is a big map on a billboard as soon as you get off the train. We got there a head of the ship buses and where very glad we did. We took the train back around noon to make sure we had plenty of time.

We had a tour book (not quiet as good as a guide). I found the train schedule on line before we went. It was very easy.

I emailed HAL asking if there were any shuttles in any ports for our 9 May Med cruise. The response was - no. They don't have any shuttles in any ports.
