With the economy being the way it is - just curious if any part of ship board credit can be redeemed for cash. Seems like at least the fuel surcharge credit should be returned.

Can you use on board credit in the casino? Other creative ideas?

I think someone said recently that perhaps the fuel surcharge rebate would be redeemable for cash, but that's all. Not really sure.

Excursions are the obvious answer, and the spa. I believe that gift shop purchases would be included, if so, buy yourself or your partner a black pearl or two! No sense that money going to waste!

I have been able to use the unused onboard credit toward the deposit for future cruises booked while on the ship.

tours and not on the PG, but before I have used it for the gift shop--it is a credit towards anything and I always forget at least something.

Oh well then, if you have a substantial credit, the answer is pearls! On the PG that's the obvious answer. :D

Each person can get up to $400 per week from the Purser. This amount goes on your shipboard account without a surcharge. It will apply against your OBC.

On our recent Regent cruise, we had an OBC of $600. After my wife and I each obtained $400 from the Purser for gambling, our account showed a balance due of $200.

On a December 2008 trip on the Mariner we had about $1,600 in cabin credits. I asked reception if I could redeem some of it. They said $1,200 was and gave it to me in cash. In the future I will always ask reception what cabin credits I can redeem in cash.

for you to tell us how it was on the PG..the crew, are they upbeat...how the ship looks inside--all the great news.

Thanks for the news about the shipboard credit.

Is it safe to wait until you are on board to book tours. Our agent wants to collect money up front!

All Catgory D cabins have balconies (the same size as the balconies on Deck 7.) The Conneseaur Club was removed, and 6 cabins were built in it's place. all on Deck 6. All carpeting was replaced (now a vibrant red) and all draperies are new. The ship was spotless. I noted no changes in the Grill, perhaps they are planned. The maitre D Craig told us there is still much more to do. He is hopeful that the Veranda restaurant will have the galley enlarged so that it can accomodate more than 72 diners .
The food was OUTSTANDING in the Veranda and L'Etoile. Lots of Lobster and superb lamb dishes served with regularity. Service was FANTASTIC, wine selections were lovely. And the crew: can't say enough. VERY UPBEAT. By the way, it is obvious they all want to stay with the Gauguin, some worry about leaving Regent for Grand Circle, but overall, they love this ship and hope to stay on.
We were aboard for 17 days, the weather was perfect (only 2 days of rain) . Seas were rough at times, there was plenty of wind. But overall, it was as good as if it were high season in November (and half the price!!!)
We had a butler (basically a waste of money....but we LOVED our cabin location (815).! I got my Belevedere (Grey Goose was also offered) and my husband got his Dimple. Only negative to us was The Grill. Not good.... Service was poor, bacon was greasy, dinners (we went twice) were no where near the quality of the other two restaurants. But no big deal: the excellence of the Veranda and L'eTOILE far outweighed our disappointment in the Grill.
Overall, a superb trip and I have a fully restored faith in Regent!!!!:D Already planning the next trip ...................

Hmm, interesting about Le Grill. It was in fine shape when we were there in December, with Arnold as maitre'd. Can't remember the chef's name. Guess that's was staff rolling over can do. With Arnold at the helm, service was impeccable, and that included breakfast and lunch.

The maitre'd on the last cruise (Brisbane to Papeete) was Cesar. That may have been the problem.
