Just wanted to get opinions on the Zuiderdam pools.

The central pool area on the Z has a retractable cover. Even with the cover open, the pool area has a closed-in feeling. On most ships the pool deck and the deck above form one large "pool area". This is not the case on the Z as the deck above the pool is almost completely blocked by the retractable cover. We are not pool people (spend most sea days on our balcony) but we did pass thru a few times and there was very little air flow in the pool area. Very uncomfortable in July.

The aft pool on the top deck is more wide open and was almost always empty, probably because there is absolutely no shade in this area. It would be nice if HAL would install some type of cover around the front and sides of this area leaving the center/rear exposed. They could use a "canvas type" cover much like the ones most ships have on the rear of the ship which is usually an outside dining area.

Not complaining. Just wanted to see how others felt.

I guess I preferred the Aft pool as well, however we found the Lido pool much warmer in temp. They did "crack open" the roof and let some air in because it is quite humid in the mid-afternoon sun ( and we are Floridians). It was quite a windy day so I think this is why they had it closed. When the wind was blowing, it was a bit chilly. The aft pool temp was FREEZING at least for a warm-blooded wimpy Florida gal! Also we ended up in the Lido pool between 3pm-5pm because Aft pool closed to kids. The kids were all in the Lido pool at that time.

Will be on the Z for the first time in August doing a B2B, are the pools fresh water?

Thanks

Thanks for sharing that tidbit. So HAL actually enforced the "adults only" at the aft pool during the specified timeframe?
