Has anyone got any information or tips about the excursions offer by Thomsons. Any information about shore excursions on your own would also be helpful. Cannot find anything on the Thomson web site. Sailing on the 5 April 2009.

Go to 'ports of call' on the Thomson website, here http://www.thomsonbeach.co.uk/th/cruise/viewPorts.do
and click on each port. Excursions are listed with prices.

Here are a few threads done by some of us who have recently been on the Destiny Caribbean cruises.

They particularly relate to our experiences of the destinations and what we did there.

http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=916702

And if you follow marylizcat's link, you'll see what Thomson are offering and the prices from their website although I think there are probably more available when you get the Destinations Guide on board.

Try the new 'Search' tool on the top of the list of threads as well and see what comes up. Good luck with your research.

P.S. If you trawl through back 2/3/4 pages (list of thread starters) you will find quite a lot more recent information on the Destiny since it went into the Caribbean this season. It cover lots of topics which may also be of interest to you including some excellent health advice from Bella (under a query about 'vaccinations' thread) and advice on La Romana airport as well as info on shopping, dining and the entertainment on board.

Hope this helps. You're probably going to reel under the weight of info now - it will take some time to pick through it all - but planning and anticipating your holiday is all part of the fun!!) :D

I've just used the search tool and sure enough, the threads I've high-lighted in the previous post plus lots of others have come up. Some of these will only have references to Destiny and the Caribbean in passing as part of other discussions but if you have the time, it might be worth seeing what else is interestiing to you.

We did the 14 days b2b from 8th -22nd February. The islands visited have been covered by lots of previous posters on other threads but here is a brief resume of each island visited.

Grenada

£30 each for Thomson Discover Grenada tour. Takes in Grand Etang Lake and rainforest, Annadale falls etc. We took a local taxi and paid 20usd each and also stopped at a spice store and a fort which gave great views over the island.

Dominica

£32 each for Thomsons Trafalgar falls and Pools. We paid $20 each for a taxi and this also included the botanical gardens. Take a mac as Dominica is a large rain forest.

Antigua

£32 each for Thomsons Best of Antigua. $20 each for a trip to Nelsons Dockyard and Shirley Heights.

St Maarten

Not too sure on Thomson trips here. We got an all day pass on the water taxi for $6 and spent the day on the beach and shopping!!

Tortola

Was raining when we docked so had a walk into town. We then got a taxi for $10 each and did an island tour. We visited Sage Mountain, Cape Garden Bay and a rum factory. Not sure what Thomson price was but they were mostly £30 or £32 each.

La Romana

For changeover day we did the Mississippi boat ride and Altos de Chavron with Thomson £32 per head. It is possible to catch a shuttle up to Altos for $6 but you can't do the boat on your own.

St Lucia

Not sure on the price of tours here as we decided to go to the beach for the day. After a while each island seems the same.

Barbados

Took the local bus here for $1.5 each return. We went round the island and eventually went back to Holetown where we spent the rest of the day.

Guadaloupe

Ship didn't stop here. We went to Antigua instead arriving at 12.30.

St Kitts

Dis the Thomson Scenic Railway trip @ £50 each. Again this is a trip you can only do through a tour operator. We thought that St Kitts was second only to St Maarten for shopping!!

Hope that gives you some idea on pricing. We always shared a taxi (with different people each time) which brought down the cost.

Might well have done Rachie, especially if you went to the beach at Holetown, Barbados. We had 2nd sitting dinner and usually went to the Seven Seas. The Lido was a bit too cool in the evening.

I know what you mean about the food. By the end of the 2 weeks I could only manage a starter and main course. Still trying to shift those darn pounds.
