I'm due for final payment next week. I booked a VF GTD. I noticed today that there is a $300.00 reduction in price.

I also noticed that I have already been assigned a specific VA cabin.

I contacted my local TA.

I was told that I could have the reduction in price BUT I would be reassigned back to a VF.

My question ..... which would you choose?

price reduction OR cabin upgrade

I need to decide by Monday. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Given you booked the lowest grade balcony cabin, I assume you are A-OK if that's what you are assigned. So why not roll the dice, save $300 and worse case, you will get what you paid for. Any balcony is better than no balcony.

I'd save the $300 and book a VF guarantee, that way there's at least a slight chance you'll get bumped back up! ;)

It would depend on which VA cabin I had been assigned. If you have an aft VA, overlooking the wake of the ship, I would keep it. I absolutely love the aft VAs, with their large balconies and relaxing wake view. On the other hand, if you were assigned a regular side VA cabin, I would save the $300 and put my hat back in the ring so to speak.

I'd also take the price reduction. There's not enough difference to me from one balcony location to another--even the aft ones.

On our upcoming cruise, HAL offered us an upsell from our VH balcony guarantee to the lowest level of suite. It was $198 per person. You could get a similar offer after the final payment date.

Another vote for "spin again".

Thanks for everyone's input.

The VA assigned was 7031. Seems like an OK location, but not great. I could be wrong. This is our first cruise.

I'm leaning towards taking the price reduction.

I took a quick look on one of the online TA's and they are showing and SY LESS than a VE for this cruise. I would call your TA and see what they can get and SY GUAR for. There are no really bad SY's and the last time we did an SY GUAR on a Vista class we ended up in an SA (real suite).

The VA assigned was 7031. Seems like an OK location, but not great. I could be wrong. This is our first cruise. We've had VAs that far forward (but on deck 8). I also say take the money and the VF Guar. You may get upgraded again.

I would go with the money.

This may be off-topic a bit, but how common is it to be assigned a cabin on a Guarantee before final payment? This must be at least 75 days out.

Thanks if anyone has any ideas about this.

I agree with the poster who advised trying for the SY guarantee. That's a big upgrade.

For $300. I would take the SY in a heart beat, after all assuming the price is the same you will not be paying more but getting much more.

If it is not available I would roll the dice again UNLESS I negotiate an exceptional VA, like an aft with the extra space.

We were faced with the same decision recently, we ended up taking a large VA and I am sure I will be happy with it, but every once in a while I wonder how else i could be spending the extra money.
