I just received this email from a friend (seriously):

Dear Friends and Family!

There will be no nursing home in our future...... When we get old and
feeble, we are going to move to a HAL Cruise Ship.

The average cost for a nursing home is $200.00 per day each.

I have checked on reservations at HAL and I can get a long term
discount and senior discount price of $135.00 per day each.

That leaves $62.00 a day for:

1. Gratuities which will only be $10.00 per day.

2. We will have as many as 10 meals a day if we can waddle to the
restaurant, or we can have room service (breakfast in bed every day of the
week).

3. Princess has as many as three swimming pools, a workout room, free
washers and dryers, shows every night,

4. They have free toothpaste and razors, and all the free soap and shampoo.

5. They will even treat you like a customer, not a patient. An extra $5.00
bucks worth of tips will have the entire staff scrambling to help you.

6. We will get to meet new people every 7 or 14 days.

7. TV broken? Light Bulb need changing? need to have the mattress replaced?
No Problem! They will fix everything and apologize for your inconvenience.

8. Clean sheets and towels every day and you don't even have to ask for
them.

9. If you fall in the nursing home and break a hip you are on Medicare, If
you fall and break a hip on a HAL Ship they will upgrade you to a suite
for the rest of your life (can't beat that).

Now hold on for the best,

Do you want to see South America, the Panama Canal, Tahiti, Australia, New
Zealand, Asia, or you name where you want to go and Holland America will have a ship ready to go.

So don't look for us in a nursing home..... just call shore to ship.

Just forward all our email to www.HAL.com (http://www.hal.com/).

Love, B & N

PS If you die they just dump you over the side, at no charge.

Actually, on the first HAL cruise we took the priest on the ship said that he had encountered a lady who lived on a cruise ship because it was cheaper than living in one of those senior complexes and much more stimulating.

I have seen that post before, just recently on the Princess board. I sent it to my daughters as a hint for my and DH's future.

Don't laugh ... I actually bumped into a few people on my last HAL cruise (Zuiderdam) who were doing that sort of thing. The one woman was blind and she pretty much lived in a suite. She was very well known on the ship and the staff in the dining room was bending over backward to make sure she was comfortable and well-fed.

The other woman who was seated at our table told me that she recently sold her condo in Fort Lauderdale because it didn't make sense keeping it any longer. She said she cruises all but five weeks of the year, and can spend those five weeks at her daughter's place.

Man, what a life! I can only dream! :)

Blue skies ...

I've seen this one too over the years and with different cruiselines. Actually there was a Canadian Newspaper that did an article about living expenses for the retired on a cruise ship.

:D Now if we can just get our long term care insurance to accept HAL ships as assisted living facilities we will really be able to afford this.:D

That is what I call retirement. What a deal.

This is not a bad idea even for just a few months. We've been looking for rentals (away from Florida) for mid July through mid October. Seems to me that we could cruise on Maasdam for 37 days from Boston - Rotterdam - Boston and then six weeks of Canada/New England. I'll price the itinerary for three (DH, Dad and me) and post the results.

None of us want to revisit our Florida hurricane season.

I received the same information and posted it on the X site. Got some interesting responses.
