Hi,
I really chuckled at this one!! Read it to my husband also!
Wondered how she dried them?
Your quote:
The laundry package is great. We paid $130 for 17 days and it was well worth it. I use the coin-operated for undies, but if you want a good laugh, We met a lady this summer who was on her 104th Hal cruise. She said she partially filled her whirlpool tub, dumped in a capfull of shampoo, put in her undies and hose, and it agitated as if they were in a washer. Cool, huh?
You said the coin-op were good for undies. Are they really small machines? Can't you put t-shirts and shorts in them?
How much fits in a load?
Also wonder about the whirlpool tub in the room. What's it like? Did you use it alot?
Thanks again,
gizmo

I simply lay them over the vanity in the bathroom. They generally dry overnight.
Of course, I'm simply washing one day's undergarments and I do it each day. This way I only have to send one bag of clothes out to be laundered by HAL. I'm a bit strange ... I don't like the idea of having smelly clothes in my suitcase for the long trip home. I'd rather wash my socks and undergarments each day even if I know I won't wear them again on the cruise. Then I fill up one of those laundry bags and send it off to be laundered right near the end of the cruise. Saves me from dumping a huge pile of laundry on dad (who generally takes care of washing) when I get home.
As for using the self-service laundry on a cruise ship ... huh? No way! I'm on vacation! :)

Yes, the washers are small---much smaller than you are used to at home---but they can do a load of wash. I take an old HAL canvas bag (the kind you're given the night before your first port) and use that as a laundry bag. When it's full I have one load of wash. (I never sort. ;))

Yup! there is one, it's retractable, stretches the length of the tub and pops into the receptacle on opposite side.
I use a mesh "delicates" bag. I have one that zips and one with a draw string for unmentionables, then I drape the wet stuff over the clothes line.
Washer fees ($2.00 per load) include a sea-friendly detergent. They don't want you to use commercial stuff on board. "Green, Green!
I've never used the whirlpool for laundry but i may try it some day, it sounds fun. I have soaked occasionally but the tubs are standard size, only the penthouse on "S" ships have oversized tubs, unlike the Vista ships which do have the larger ones. There are several regular hot tubs on the Lido deck.

Thanks Ruth,:)
Never sailed on a ship with laundry room before. I think it's a great idea! I'm not a sorter either. Just like to get it done. Our cabin is close to the laundry.

Thanks grannynurse,
Will be doing laundry on 17 days at sea. Shouldn't be that bad. I could let my husband take care of it!

Yes, I am truly blessed to have him healthy and living with me. See, the unique thing about dad is that he is going to be 91 years old this coming January. He is totally active, still drives, and ... I hate to say it ... he walks better than I do since he has the good sense not to do dangerous things like jump out of airplanes and break his legs.
Dad has been living with me for the past four years. Mom lived there too, but she died in 2002. It was rough going with dad for a while ... they had been married for 69 years. I honestly didn't think he was gonna get through the grief he experienced ... some days it seemed like he didn't know which end was up.
Thankfully, he is getting more and more like his old self each day, and he likes to do things around the house to keep busy and engaged.
I've tried to talk him into cruising, but so far ... no go. I think the big stumbling block is the Fort Lauderdale departure. He won't fly and taking the train doesn't appeal to him. I keep telling him that whether he likes it or not, I'm gonna book us on a cruise next summer leaving from Philadelphia. I only wish HAL sailed out of there ... because I think that would be the best line for him ...
He thinks he'll be bored on a cruise, but I think he'll love it. So, I'm looking for something a bit shorter ... like maybe five or six days. If I can't find one there, I'll try for something leaving out of New York.
Blue skies ...

Hi Rita,
How great to have your dad with you! My mom is in FL and refuses to live in PA near us! She's a mere 85, still on her own and driving etc! She also thinks she would be bored on a cruise.
Maybe you could cruise on Celebrity-don't know if it goes out of Philly, but it's also a quiet cruiseline.
We'll be leaving from Philly for our South America cruise in less than a month. Airline prices are cheaper to fly out of Philly than Wilkes Barre. It's only a 2 hour drive.
Take care of yourself and your dad!

We will leave for Madrid, Spain on 9 Nov. for the ms Westerdam's repositioning cruise across the Atlantic. No washers or dryers on board.
Bring a long section of rope, a large net bag; tie to balcony and throw bag into sea for one hour.(LOL). It worked for Piriates!
